Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta (Childrens) and Emory University School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics(DOP)are seeking a visionary and collaborative physician medical-education leader withstrong clinical skillsexcellent academic scholarshipand educational experience to serve in the new role ofLead System Fellowship Directorat Childrens and DOP.

The Lead Systems Fellowship Directorwill report directly to the Chief Teaching Officer/Vice Chair of EducationIn partnership with all medical and surgical fellowship program leaders (i.e.program directors associate program directors and program coordinators) the Director will support individual program strength growth andoptimization. Thisrole involvesworking closely with all medical and surgical fellowship program directors associate program directorsand program coordinators and reports directly to the Chief Teaching Officer/Vice-Chair of individual in this position willbe responsible forsupporting the strengthgrowthand optimization of all the medical and surgical fellowship programs at Childrens and DOP ensuringthe highest standard inpediatrictrainingofmedical and surgical fellows ismaintainedat Emory and elevates the culture of teaching and learning at Childrens.

TheLead Systems Fellowship Directorwillfacilitatethe integration of the latest teaching methodologies and evidence-based training as well as providing support inspiration and oversight for advancing up-to-date curriculaand assessmentconsistent with ACGME guidelines to ensure our fellowship training programsremainat the forefront of medical education. Additionally this role will collaborate with institutional and external stakeholders to ensure training initiatives align with accreditation standards advance best practices and deliver high quality education.

Specific Job Responsibilities

Develops vision and strategy for expanding and leading all fellowship education programs including:

  • Ensures the DOP maintains the highest standard in training medical and surgical fellows. Elevates the culture of teaching and learning at Childrens.
  • Leads the development implementation and ongoing evaluation of a centralized fellowship core curriculum to ensure consistency efficiency and alignment withACGMEandmedical boardrequirements.
  • Promotes visibility of fellowship programs across DOP and Childrens helping to break down training silos and enhance community among fellows and fellowship leaders.
  • Works collaboratively with the DOP Chair and Division ChiefsChildrensDivision ChiefsandtheChief Teaching Officer/Vice-Chair of Education to align academic priorities and educational initiatives for fellowship as the primary point of contact for fellowship-level issues allowing the Chief Teaching Officer/Vice-Chair of Education to focus on broader departmental educational strategy.
  • Oversees and supports the ongoing implementation ofqualityimprovementprogramsto ensure theymeetexternal regulations and national accreditation standards.
  • Mentorsfellowshipdirectors who needassistancein meeting ACGME requirements.
  • Centralizes shared educational resources processes and documents for efficiency and equity across all fellowship programswith specific attention toequitabledistribution of teaching resources across fellowship programs.
  • Conducts programmatic reviews and oversees faculty who serve as program directors assistant program directors core faculty and members of required committees of ACGME-accredited fellowship training programs.
  • Provides structured faculty development mentorship and onboarding for fellowship program directors including professional development program directors and educational leaders incareer growth suchaspursuingmedical education scholarships certification programs and/or leadership development.
  • Overseesthe evaluation strategy for fellowship educational programs ensuring that programmatic goals and professional standards are met including synthesizing program-level evaluation data ACGME survey trends and outcomes toidentifyopportunities for improvement and advocacy.
  • Monitors fellow evaluation of teaching faculty members;provides regular feedback and counseling to individual teaching faculty including adjunct facultyas neededand requested by the Chief Teaching Officer/Vice-Chair of Education.
  • Advises onfaculty ortraineeperformance concerns andassistsin developing remediation pathways in collaboration with fellowship program directors and GME leadership.
  • Assists the Chief Teaching Officer/Vice-Chair of Education in the assignment of faculty teaching time to promote excellence in all teaching programs and advance educational skills for our teaching faculty in the Department of Pediatricswith specific attention to equitable distribution of teaching resources across fellowship programs.
  • Collatesummativeteachingevaluations tothedepartmental promotions committee as requested by the Chief Teaching Officer/Vice-Chair of Education.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Teaching Officer/Vice-Chair of Education toestablishappropriate trainingandfacultydevelopment modules to buildteaching and administrationskills for faculty.
  • Leads fellowship-specific educational innovation initiatives (e.g. competency-based assessment tools EPA implementation) anddisseminatesbest practices across fellowship programs
  • Encourages fellowship programdirectors andeducational leadersin pursuing medical educationscholarships certification programsand/orleadership development.
  • Facilitates community-building activities among fellowship program directors fellows and coordinators to reduce isolation and enhance departmental cohesiveness.
  • Prepares presents and reviews fellowship educational status reports and issues and reports monthly to the Chief Teaching Officer/Vice-Chair of Education.
  • Participatesin the training ofmedical students residentsfellows and faculty andin the educational programs of the department.
  • Liaises with potential external academic partners to integrate newfellowshiptrainingprograms into Childrens. Works directly with Childrens Academic Administration Emory Executive Administrator Chief Teaching Officer/Vice-Chair of Education relevant Division Chiefs relevant Department Chairs and their administrative partners to operationalize new fellowship training programs.
  • Partners with Childrenslearning teamtoleverageand share educational tools and models whereappropriate.
  • Works with the Chief Teaching Officer/Vice-Chair of Education and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics to developmaintainand administer philanthropic funding to support educational activities across Childrens.
  • Oversees thebudget for fellowship-level educational programs in partnership with the Vice President of Research and Academic Administration (Childrens) the Executive Administrator and Emory Executive Administrator and Vice Chair for Administration for Department of Pediatrics and the Pediatric Institute and the Chief Teaching Officer/Vice-Chair of Education.
  • Ensures adequate administrative support for fellowship programs advocating for coordinator FTEproportional todepartmentalneeds in alignment withACGME requirements.
  • Works with community partners statewide pediatric training programs and leaders at Childrens and Emory to ensure sufficient training sites to meet requirementsincluding active participation in regional and national GME networks to bring best practices back to the departments.
  • Leadsshared recruitment initiatives including maintenance of shared marketing/digital resources and departmental recruiting practices across fellowship programs providing guidance to program directors and associate program directorsonbest partnership with the fellowship coordinatoris responsible forfellowship orientation to the Department of Pediatrics and Childrens.
