About the role:
At Compass ELC Outdoor Programs you will work as an Educator in a nature-based program designed to challenge the senses and inspire creativity imagination and child-led play. You will work alongside some of the most passionate caring and dedicated educators in the industry. You will spend your time engaging connecting and learning alongside children families community partners and co-workers. You will model and grow a perspective of equity and strive for a deeper understanding of cultural awareness.
Some accountabilities associated with the role include:
- Being committed to outdoor learning.
- Being reliable flexible and enjoying working outside in all weather.
- Planning and implementing play-based experiences surrounding childrens interests.
- Empowering age-appropriate risk-taking and deep play based on process-oriented learning.
- Observing and documenting childrens learning.
- Building relationships with families and including them in the learning process.
- Working as part of a team with fellow Co-workers Families Community Partners and Children.
- Ensuring the safety of staff and children by learning and acknowledging all childrens diverse needs and backgrounds and creating equitable opportunities for all children to engage.
- Demonstrating respect for spaces by maintaining a safe environment by providing Risk assessments and implementing safety plans on the areas used in the forest.
- Giving the children time and space to play in sensory-rich experiential learning environments.
- Using the environment as inspiration for creative play opportunities.
- Living into the calls of action 10 & 63 sharing the truth of Canadas history & offering an Indigenous lens
Skills and Qualifications:
- Is familiar with the Child Care Early Years Act and licensing standards in a childcare program.
- Enjoys being in an outdoor environment in all weather.
- Is familiar with outdoor programming and forest school methodology Compass pedagogical orientations and vision framework
- Has experience working/volunteering with children and youth.
- Possesses the training and documents required by the Ministry of Education Compass Early Learning and Care and the Child Care Early Years Act to work in a childcare setting:
- Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
- Updated immunization records (Or a signed and notarized refusal of affidavit or medical exemption).
- Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators or has a post-secondary degree in a similar field (i.e. Forest School Practitioner Child and Youth Care Recreation and Leisure Bachelor of Education etc)
- High Five training is an asset
- Access to reliable transportation
Requirements:
As a Canada Summer Jobs Funded role applicants must meet the following requirements to be eligible for employment:
- is between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
- is a Canadian Citizen permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under theImmigration and Refugee Protection Act S.C. 2001 c. 27*;and
