Regional Data Protection Officer (DPO) Europe
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly qualified Regional Data Protection Officer to lead our European Union data protection programme. Reporting directly to the VP Privacy in California this strategic role will ensure full compliance with European privacy regulations while driving privacy excellence across all European business operations.
You will act as the regional privacy champion providing expert guidance on data protection matters and ensuring our continued commitment to safeguarding personal data across all European subsidiaries and operations. This is a key leadership role within a global privacy organisation working closely with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
What Youll Do
- Lead and manage privacy programmes across European subsidiaries and regional business units
- Report regularly to the VP Privacy on compliance status risks and strategic privacy initiatives
- Ensure full compliance with GDPR and other applicable European data protection laws
- Develop and maintain regional privacy governance frameworks aligned with global standards
- Conduct privacy risk assessments and oversee mitigation strategies
- Manage Records of Processing Activities (ROPA) data inventories and retention frameworks
- Oversee and continuously improve Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) processes across the region
- Lead Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
- Champion Privacy by Design and Default across products systems and processes
- Advise on cross-border data transfers including SCCs and adequacy mechanisms
- Manage vendor privacy risk assessments and third-party compliance oversight
- Lead regional privacy incident response and ensure timely regulatory reporting
- Deliver privacy training programmes and raise awareness across European teams
- Act as primary liaison with EU supervisory authorities where required
- Collaborate closely with legal IT HR security and global privacy teams
What Youll Bring
- Bachelors degree in Law Information Technology Business Administration or a related field
- Professional privacy certifications such as CIPP/E CIPM CIPT or equivalent (preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years experience in privacy data protection or related compliance roles
- Strong expert knowledge of GDPR and broader European data protection regulations
- Experience managing multi-entity or regional privacy programmes
- Proven ability to conduct DPIAs PIAs and privacy risk assessments
- Strong understanding of DSAR processes records management and data governance
- Experience with cross-border data transfer mechanisms (e.g. SCCs adequacy decisions)
- Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage senior leadership
- Fluency in English
