Job Summary
A Brief Overview
Reporting to the Manager Outreach Student Academic Success Services (SASS) the Digital Learning and Writing Specialist (DLWS) works collaboratively with the SASS team and across the university to support the academic success of undergraduate graduate and professional students at Queens. The DLWS brings expertise in digital and inclusive pedagogies foundational skills and proficiency in academic writing and the ability to translate academic skills and strategies to digital modalities. The DLWS will coordinate and contribute to the development maintenance and evaluation of SASS digital materialsresources interactive modules and social media campaignswith a focus on developing students skills in academic writing learning and critical digital literacies. As part of the SASS outreach team the DLWS will also contribute to the development and facilitation of tailored writing and academic skills workshops and will manage the SASS website as a means of increasing and diversifying SASS reach engagement and impact. Additionally the DLWS will continuously monitor trends and developments in student learning support and emerging educational technologies including generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) to recommend innovations that enhance student writing and learning strategies and the delivery of SASS programs.
This position provides academic skills advising and writing consultation services to undergraduate and graduate students that assist them in enhancing learning writing and self-management and foster academic confidence and success at university. This position designs develops delivers and evaluates programs workshops training and services for students and other stakeholders. This position advises students on a variety of self-awareness and coping skill exercises and techniques. This position also supports students presenting with academic challenges and/or cognitive challenges related to learning disabilities attention deficits traumatic brain injury or illness that have a direct bearing on their academic functioning.

- Designs develops delivers and evaluates programs workshops training and services for students and other stakeholders.
- Advises students on a variety of self-awareness and coping skill exercises and techniques.
- Provides support to students presenting with academic challenges and/or cognitive challenges related to learning disabilities attention deficits traumatic brain injury or illness that have a direct bearing on their academic functioning.
- Builds partnerships and collaborates with departments across the university and with community partners to promote and implement programs and initiatives that support student success.
- Conducts consultations with other advisors to ensure knowledge and support services are aligned with best practices.
- Creates social media and communication materials and strategies in support of outreach activities.
- Develops resources to support students academic skill development.
- Develops program content for websites.
- Evaluates and researches comparators and best practices in student development and experiential learning.
- Chairs and/or participates on committees.
- Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.
Required Education- Masters Degree or addition requires a professional designation certification or other qualification or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.

Required Experience- More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
- Experience in designing and delivering academic support via digital environments considered an asset
- Previous experience developing and delivering workshops considered an asset.
- Familiarity with online learning strategies considered an asset.
- Experience developing coordinating and implementing student development and/or student experience programs considered an asset.
- Experience advising students considered an asset.
- Experience in writing interviewing reviewing editing and/or proofreading internal and/or external communications and documents considered an asset (e.g. social media policy manuals newsletters handbooks legal documents forms/templates blogs training/reference materials technical documents webinars etc.).
- Experience working at a post-secondary education institution considered an asset.
Required Licenses and Certifications- Satisfactory Criminal Records Check required.
