ROLE of the POSITION
Reporting to the Executive Director of Marketing & Communications the Associate Director of Marketing & Communications supports Academic Affairs marketing and communication goals by leading and contributing to strategic marketing initiatives comprehensive communication plans and branding activities. This position leads integrated divisional marketing campaigns and oversees the development and implementation of email journeys within lifecycle communication initiatives to support recruitment admission retention and graduation.
This Associate Director is responsible for content development and creative oversight for Academic Affairs marketing initiatives including print publications direct mail advertisements web email video and photography. The position ensures all marketing and communications align with university brand standards meet project goals support student recruitment retention and success and support community outreach efforts. This role supervises Content Marketing Specialists providing leadership in content strategy project prioritization and professional development. The position contributes to goal setting performance tracking and data-informed marketing strategies. The position also provides senior-level support to the Executive Director as needed.
This role requires a proactive organized and detail-oriented professional with expertise in integrated marketing campaigns project management and cross-departmental collaboration.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Coordinate marketing projects and divisional campaigns for Academic Affairs departments overseeing content development creative execution and production
- Serve as a primary point of contact for Academic Affairs marketing requests and as the final approver for assigned marketing campaigns ensuring accuracy brand compliance and effectiveness
- Lead video and photography projects for Academic Affairs providing creative direction managing scheduling and coordinating on- and off-campus shoots approving final edits and ensuring high-quality multimedia content.
- Oversee the creation and implementation of email journeys within lifecycle communication initiatives to support recruitment admission retention and graduation
- Supervise Content Marketing Specialists providing leadership in content strategy editorial direction and project prioritization across print (e.g. brochures flyers postcards) and digital (e.g. web email social media) channels
- Foster collaboration across Academic Affairs university colleges and schools and broader institutional units to ensure alignment in messaging and marketing efforts across the university
- Support goal setting performance tracking and data-informed marketing strategies to drive continuous improvement
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a bachelors degree in journalism marketing public relations communications or a related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 57 years of experience in marketing communications or a related field with a proven track record of developing and implementing successful campaigns (preferably in higher education or a similar sector) and 13 years of supervisory experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.

- Ability to manage multiple programs services and projects and set priorities to meet competing deadlines
- Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and build strong relationships with stakeholders
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences
- Plan write and edit content for a variety of audiences and communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely
- Strong attention to detail especially in grammar punctuation and proofreading
- Ensure compliance with digital accessibility standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word Excel and PowerPoint) and Google Workspace
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A masters degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. Experience in higher education particularly in enrollment management and supporting the needs of prospective and current students is also preferred. A strong understanding of branding principles audience segmentation and higher education marketing trends and challenges are highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience with customer relationship management (CRM) systems and email marketing platforms (e.g. Salesforce Salesforce Marketing Cloud)
- Strong awareness of higher education trends policies and challenges
- Thorough knowledge of AP Stylebook
- Basic proficiency in creative design or an understanding of visual branding principles
