Come Work with Compass ELC: the role:

At Compass ELC you will work as a Summer Cook Assistant alongside some of the most passionate caring and dedicated educators in the industry. You will spend your time supporting the nutrition specialist with cleaning dishes planning prepping and cooking nutritious and delicious meals and snacks in accordance with the Canada Food Guide Ministry of Education and Compass Early Learning and Care policies and guidelines. You will model and grow a perspective of equity and strive for a deeper understanding of cultural awareness. Hours will be based on program needs and funding. This 8-week contract position is 35 hours per week Monday to Friday and is funded by Canada Summer jobs


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting planning prepping and cooking nutritious and delicious meals and snacks
  • Maintaining a clean kitchen space.
  • Demonstrating respect for spaces by ensuring the safety and cleanliness of all equipment dishes furniture and materials.
  • Collaborating with the Nutrition Specialist and Educators.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with staff volunteers students community partners and school staff including principals custodians and teaching teams in shared spaces.
  • Preparing food in consideration of childrens food allergies and sensitivities.


Skills and Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • Applicants must meet the requirements set out by Canada Summer Jobs.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Has experience working in a kitchen environment.
  • Has experience working in a childcare or summer camp setting.
  • Valid Food Handlers certificate
  • Valid certifications including: Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check Standard First Aid and CPR Level C and Updated immunization records.


Canada Summer Jobs Requirements:


This role is funded by Canada Summer Jobs and requires participants to meet the following requirements:

(a) is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

(b) is a Canadian Citizen permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act S.C. 2001 c. 27*; and

(c) is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
