Job Title: Nationally Certified Medical Assistant
Location: Juneau Alaska
Job Type: Permanent
Schedule: Full-Time (Day Shift)
Position Summary
The Certified Medical Assistant supports providers and nursing staff in delivering high-quality patient care. This role involves clinical assistance patient coordination documentation and ensuring efficient clinic operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately collect and document patient information
- Maintain patient records and ensure medication and immunization data is up to date
- Recognize and respond to patient symptoms requiring intervention
- Assist with patient transport within the facility
- Prepare patients for exams treatments and minor procedures
- Set up equipment and assist with minor office procedures
- Perform specimen collection and Point-of-Care Testing (POCT)
- Assist with radiology exams (if qualified)
- Administer immunizations and injections as directed
- Support providers and nursing staff in patient care delivery
- Identify patients overdue for preventive care and assist with scheduling
- Maintain patient flow and clinic efficiency
- Report changes in patient condition and safety concerns
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide cross-coverage across clinics as needed
- Participate in staff meetings and departmental initiatives
- Follow organizational policies and maintain professional standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Education & Certification
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Current BLS certification (required)
- One of the following certifications (required):
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
- EMT III (Alaska Certification)
- Alaska Paramedic Certification
- Nursing Degree (may substitute for the above certifications)
Experience
- Experience in a healthcare setting preferred
- Open to candidates with less than 1 year of experience
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of clinic workflows and patient care procedures
- Understanding of medical terminology
- Ability to perform basic life-saving procedures
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Proficiency with EMR systems and medical software
Technical Skills
- Ability to operate medical equipment such as:
- Blood pressure monitors
- Pulse oximeters
- EKG machines
- Cardiac monitors
- Defibrillators
Key Abilities
- Accurately document patient data in EMR systems
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- Respond effectively in emergency situations
- Maintain strong organizational and multitasking skills
