Your role and responsibilities
As an Operational Risk Inspector you will play a key role in gathering and collating risk information on premises and sites across Suffolk for our operational crews. This information is vital in enabling crews to carry out their duties as safely as possible.
Heres a glimpse into what your typical week will look like;
- Undertaking and managing the Operational Risk Inspection process including conducting site visits and compiling Operational Risk Information while working within recognised guidelines.
- Maintaining Operational Risk information of various platforms
- Helping coordinate the operational Risk Inspection schedule ensuring that service measures are achieved
- Providing district support as a single point of contact for Operational Risk
- Provide guidance at Local Authority Safety Advisory Group meetings ensuring plans are accurate and communicated to the relevant stakeholders
- Maintaining the SFRS areas within Resilience Direct including the sharing of cross border information.
You will need
- Practical knowledge of Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service fire stations the generic FRS departmental structure operational incident categories mobilising arrangements and operational procedures and terminology.
- Strong IT skills including excellent knowledge of Microsoft 365 products
- Strong communication skills with the ability to share knowledge and present new information to others potentially in a formal setting.
- Able to work to multiple deadlines and prioritise tasks effectively to meet tight deadlines particularly in relation to important risk information.
- Excellent attention to detail with a passion for creating and maintaining efficient and effective processes and procedures.

The Operational Risk Team plays a critical role within Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service (SFRS) responsible for gathering assessing and collating detailed risk information on premises and sites across Suffolk. This essential information helps ensure that operational crews are well-prepared and equipped with the necessary details to carry out their duties as safely and efficiently as possible. By identifying potential hazards and risks within the local area the team contributes to effective decision-making during emergency response situations.
