The Reynoldsburg City Schools Summer School Guidance Counselor is responsible for supporting the successful operation of the summer school program by overseeing student enrollment academic progress monitoring scheduling and transcript updates. This role ensures students are properly placed remain on track for credit recovery or advancement and receive academic and social-emotional support to ensure successful course completion.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Ohio School Counselor License.
- Masters Degree in School Counseling.
- Successful completion of required criminal background checks (BCI/FBI).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a secondary school setting (Grades 712).
- Proficiency with Student Information Systems (SIS) for scheduling and grade reporting.
- Strong understanding of Ohios graduation requirements and credit recovery pathways.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Primary functions may include the following duties responsibilities skills abilities and other characteristics. Enrollment and Roster Management
- Maintain and update the summer school student roster and manage eligible student enrollment lists.
- Assign students to appropriate classrooms based on specific course needs grade levels and scheduling requirements.
- Verify student attendance records periodically and follow up on absences with students families and administration.
- Ensure that student schedules and course assignments remain accurate throughout the duration of the program.
Academic Monitoring and Records
- Monitor student academic progress and communicate regularly with teachers and administration regarding students at risk of failing.
- Ensure earned credits are entered onto official student transcripts in a timely and accurate manner following program completion.
- Collaborate with summer school administrators and teachers to address barriers to student success.
Direct Counseling and Support
- Provide individual and group counseling to assist students in attaining personal and academic goals during the summer term.
- Facilitate communication with families regarding course status credit completion and scheduling questions.
- Identify student needs and provide crisis intervention or social-emotional support as necessary.
Ohio School Counselor Evaluation System (OSCES) Standards
- Comprehensive School Counseling Program Plan: Design and implement a program aligning with Ohio standards and district summer goals.
- Direct Services: Deliver developmentally appropriate counseling transition support and academic guidance.
- Indirect Services: Collaborate and consult effectively with parents teachers and administrators.
- Evaluation and Data: Monitor student progress and program effectiveness using data such as attendance and credit completion rates.
- Professional Responsibility and Leadership: Adhere to ethical standards and maintain professional growth and state licensure requirements.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Ohio School Counselor Evaluation System (OSCES) standards and requirements.
- Ohio Department of Education (ODEW) graduation requirements and credit recovery models.
- Federal and state laws regarding student privacy (FERPA) special education and mandatory reporting.
Skilled in:
- Effective communication with diverse student populations parents and staff.
- Accurate data entry and management within school databases and Student Information Systems.
- Crisis intervention conflict resolution and academic advising.
Ability to:
- Analyze student data to improve academic and social outcomes.
- Manage high volumes of student data and scheduling tasks in a condensed timeframe.
- Work collaboratively with building principals summer staff and curriculum departments.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. The employee is required to sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to push pull lift and carry over 25 pounds on occasion.
Working Conditions The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood bodily fluids and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children.
Driving Requirement This position may require driving to various school sites or events.
