Position Summary
The EHS Manager (MSHA-Specialized) is a high-impact leadership role responsible for implementing managing and continuously improving Forgens Safety & Health Program across MSHA-regulated and heavy civil construction projects. This position supports corporate and regional leadership while serving as a key resource to project teams ensuring compliance reducing risk and advancing Forgens Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture.
With deep expertise in MSHA and working knowledge of OSHA this role leads safety strategy execution in mining mine-reclamation and complex geotechnical environments. The EHS Manager oversees and mentors safety professionals drives proactive risk management and partners with operations clients and regulators to uphold Forgens reputation as a safety-first organization.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead manage and mentor a team of Safety & Health professionals (5) ensuring accountability development and high performance.
- Champion Forgens Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture through leadership coaching and visible commitment.
- Develop implement and continuously improve MSHA-compliant safety and health programs for mining and mine-reclamation environments.
- Ensure compliance with MSHA OSHA and applicable federal state and local regulations including audit readiness and response to inspections citations and inquiries.
- Provide direct EHS support to project teams particularly on high-risk high-profile or MSHA-regulated projects.
- Conduct risk-based assessments hazard analyses (AHA/JHA) and site audits to identify and mitigate operational risks.
- Lead and support incident investigations root cause analysis and corrective action implementation to prevent recurrence.
- Deliver and coordinate training programs field coaching and competency development aligned with regulatory and company requirements.
- Collaborate with Operations Project Managers and executives to align safety initiatives with project and corporate objectives.
- Serve as a primary liaison with regulators and clients representing Forgen during audits inspections and project reviews.
- Support development and review of Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) to ensure alignment with client and regulatory requirements.
- Analyze and report safety performance metrics trends and narratives to support leadership decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Partner with estimating and business development teams to support pre-bid safety planning and proposal narratives.
- Ensure proper documentation and tracking of inspections training certifications and incident data within company systems.
- Promote consistent application of hazard identification and risk mitigation practices to reduce exposure to ALARP.
- Apply strong organizational and leadership skills to manage multiple projects and priorities across geographically dispersed locations.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Safety Engineering Construction Management Environmental Science or related field (required).
- Minimum 10 years of EHS experience with at least 5 years in a leadership or multi-site role.
- Demonstrated experience in MSHA-regulated environments (mining mine closure reclamation or remediation).
- Experience supporting large-scale civil geotechnical or environmental construction projects.
- Proven leadership in team management regulatory compliance and client engagement.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent BCSP certification.
- MSHA and OSHA certifications required.
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a related field.
- OSHA 500 40-Hour HAZWOPER EMand other advanced safety certifications.
- Strong working knowledge of industrial hygiene fall protection trenching and hazardous materials.
- Demonstrated success in risk management claims reduction and loss prevention strategies.
- Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies and managing compliance processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to present to clients and leadership.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.
- Strong analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- High emotional intelligence professional presence and ability to perform under pressure.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This role requires lifting up to 50 pounds extended standing or walking on project sites climbing in and out of equipment and working in confined spaces or at heights. Work conditions and demands may vary with possible exposure to heavy machinery chemicals dust fumes noise and extreme weather. Proper PPE including protective eyewear gloves a hard hat and steel-toed boots is required. Effective communication tool use and adherence to safety protocols are essential.
