Job Description:

Position Purpose summary:

This role supports planning and facilitating various activity programs at The Windsor Centre of Hope. The role contributes to the broader mission and values of The Salvation Army upholding standards of service that reflect its spiritual and social commitment to the community. Activities focus on supporting and promoting the well-being of individuals and families while addressing immediate needs through emergency assistance Food Bank services community meals referrals seasonal programs and other community-based initiatives. Duties also include assisting clients donors and visitors in accessing appropriate services and resources.

Accountabilities:

Incumbents may perform all some or similar range of duties as below.

  • Support the supervisor on development implementation monitoring evaluation and revision of benchmark quality standards for the programs to ensure overall service delivery meets client needs and expectations.
  • Assist in planning and implementation of a variety of recreational therapeutic and social activities tailored to the individual needs and interests of clients including arts music fitness outings and seasonal events as directed.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff families and interdisciplinary teams to assess clients capacity abilities preferences and participation goals document client engagement and report observations.
  • Track inventory for the Activity supplies and equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain the physical environment and materials for programs ensuring equipment and supplies are safe available and in good condition.
  • Facilitate group and individual activities promote participation with encouragement and sensitivity and adapt programming as needed to support client inclusion as directed by the supervisor.
  • Coordinate volunteers and new activity staff as assigned; provide support and guidance during programs and special events to volunteers and new activity staff as directed.
  • Arrange and accompany clients on external outings ensuring all safety protocols supplies and mobility supports are in place and maintain communication with the care team as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities attendance client progress and program statistics; contribute to quality improvement by providing feedback on program effectiveness.
  • Support communication with families spiritual care and external entertainers or community partners to enhance program delivery and engagement opportunities.
  • Attend meetings & educational seminars assigned by the Manager.
  • Represent the organization in a respectful and professional manner reflecting the mission and values of The Salvation Army.

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • This position reports directly to the Executive Director or designate.
  • Accountable to the Windsor Centre of Hope Executive Team.
  • Manage a partnership with community agencies by attending designated meetings events and groups associated with the work of The Salvation Amy Windsor COH.
  • This position has no direct reports reports.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • May be involved in minor financial transactions on a regular or relief basis and is expected to exercise sound judgment in the use of organizational and personal resources.
  • May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash including disbursements and collections
  • May be responsible for maintaining and tracking fixed asset inventories
  • May hold material responsibility for the proper care and maintenance of equipment
  • May have access to confidential and sensitive information and is expected to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a permanent full-time position based on 40 hours per week.
  • Flexibility in scheduling required.
  • Work is primarily performed indoors within the ministry unit/facility some activities may be performed outdoors in good weather conditions.
  • The role requires standing walking bending and lifting of items up to 20 lbs keyboarding.
  • The work environment is generally positive; however the incumbent may occasionally interact with individuals displaying challenging behaviours.
  • This position may occasionally require local travel.

education experience AND Qualifications:

  • Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent plus graduation from a recognized recreational certification program / community service worker certification program. Preference will be provided to candidates with related certificates in AODA NVCI First Aid Mental Health First Aid Positive Client Care.
  • Minimum of two years post-secondary education in Community Engagement or Event Management.
  • Valid certification in First Aid/CPR and Non-violent crisis intervention training would be an asset.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Drivers License personal vehicle required and insurance current copy of drivers abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion is required.
  • Must provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment
  • May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • 1 year of related experience is a minimum requirement for this role.
  • Knowledge of Office365 is required.
  • An alternative level or combination of education and experience may be acceptable at the discretion of the hiring manager.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including active listening empathy and the ability to work effectively with staff clients families volunteers and visitors.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • High level of integrity confidentiality and professional ethics with a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions accurately.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail with good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated patience understanding and professionalism in all interactions.

Compensation:

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
