The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
1. Contract Position Title. Catholic Worship Director/Musician
2. Scope of Responsibilities. To plan coordinate implement and perform the music for the
Catholic worship services and other special services which fall within the scope of these
responsibilities when requested by the Catholic chaplain and/or Installation Chaplain at
Geilenkirchen NATO Air Base chapel. The Catholic Worship Director (CWD/M) also referred
to as director in this document serves as resource person advisor coordinator and director of
Catholic worship service music. They conduct rehearsals and coordinate with worship volunteer
musicians and vocalists. They are responsible for the accurate completion of all facility requests
and funds requests. They consult and coordinate with the Catholic chaplain conducting each
service or their designee. The director will perform the services described above or coordinate
performance by a substitute of equal or higher proficiency who has been approved in advance
by the Catholic Chaplain. They will submit the names and qualifications of proposed substitutes
for approval at least 14 calendar days prior to the proposed absence. Substitutes must meet the
same requirements for the position as outlined in this Job description. Director is responsible f
or payment of substitute(s).
3. Education and Experience Requirement. The Catholic Worship Director/Musician shall:
3.1. Have a minimum of one year of experience within the last five years in leading music in a
Roman Catholic worship setting and perform within guidelines in accordance with the Roman
Catholic Church liturgical documents.
3.2. Proficiency in both piano and organ accompaniment is required including the ability to
select hymns appropriate for organ-led Catholic liturgy.
3.3. Be able to coordinate and select music commensurate with the Catholic liturgical calendar
and a variety of liturgical settings established by the Catholic Church direct and lead choir and
congregational singing and communicate effectively and clearly in spoken and written English.
Have a minimum of one-year related experience.
4. General Responsibilities. The Catholic Worship Director/Musician shall:
4.1. Maintain a professional working relationship with the chapel staff congregation and other
personnel. The CWD/M ensures all reproduction of music and videos comply with all Copyright
laws.
4.2. Work within a community of diverse faith expressions supporting a religiously pluralistic
environment.
4.3. Coordinate with Catholic Chaplain to determine musical requirements for all
services/rehearsals. Music must be approved at least 72 hours in advance by the chaplain
conducting the service.
4.4. Maintain a neat clean and well-groomed professional appearance. A minimum of (Casual)
business attire is required when performing worship services and duties especially on Sundays
holidays and Holy Days.
4.5. Coordinate all weekly rehearsal dates and times with the Facility Manager. Rehearsals
whether performed alone or with volunteer personnel will take place at the Geilenkirchen (GK)
Chapel (Bldg 3) and are limited to the hours of 0800-1900 any day of the week; pending other
facility requests.
4.5.1. Read and sign chapel facility usage security key control and safety letter. After
each usage of facilities must ensure all instruments music microphones music stands
chairs cords etc. are returned to their proper places and the chapel facility is neat
and clean and returned to its neutral setting. Ensure lights are turned off and buildings
are locked after each use when no other event follows their rehearsal or worship service.
4.6. Perform 52 units annually and up to 10 additional units. Each unit consists of 1 (one)
rehearsal (1 hour minimum) at the Geilenkirchen (GK) Chapel (Bldg 3) and 1 (one) worship
service at the Geilenkirchen (GK) Chapel (Bldg 3) or other GK facility approved by Installation
addition to the 52 units annually up to 10 additional units are authorized and may
be required (for Holy Days and holidays as outlined in the Catholic liturgical year and the
regular calendar year funeral or memorial services and special events) for a maximum of 62
units during the 12 months of the contract. The CWD/M will arrive at least 30 minutes prior to
worship services to ensure set-up of worship space and all necessary equipment is operating
properly. Each scheduled service requires a rehearsal.
4.7. Attend special meetings and training. Periodic ecumenical/inter-faith service may be
required in lieu of a regular scheduled unit as determined by Group Chaplain. Ecumenical/Interfaith
service may include but are not limited to Holy Days holiday events memorial services
special community events etc.
4.8. Responsible for recruiting and directing volunteer musicians and vocalists.
4.9. Except in cases of emergency the director shall notify the Contracting Officer
Representative (COR) or the Catholic Chaplain of pending absences at least 14 calendar days
in advance. The director is responsible for providing a qualified substitute at no additional
cost to the Government. Any substitute must meet the education and experience for this position.
