Location: Central Office

Reports To: Superintendent of Schools
Position Type: Full-Time Full Year
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary

Mountain Views Supervisory Union is seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Director of Technology & Innovation to serve as a strategic and instructional leader. This position is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive vision for technology that advances student learning operational excellence and organizational effectiveness.

The Director leads all aspects of district technology including infrastructure cybersecurity data governance instructional technology and innovation ensuring alignment with district strategic priorities and measurable outcomes.

Core Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Develop and implement a districtwide technology vision aligned with the Strategic Plan and Portrait of a Graduate
  • Serve as a key advisor to the Superintendent and leadership team
  • Lead cross-functional integration of technology across instruction assessment finance and operations
  • Monitor and evaluate emerging technologies including AI

Instructional Technology & Innovation

  • Partner with curriculum leaders to enhance teaching and learning through technology
  • Promote instructional frameworks such as SAMR and TPACK
  • Design and deliver high-quality professional development
  • Support digital learning tools and equitable access for all students

Technology Operations & Infrastructure

  • Oversee networks devices cloud services and enterprise systems
  • Ensure reliability scalability and security of infrastructure
  • Manage vendor relationships contracts and service agreements
  • Lead system implementations aligned with district goals

Cybersecurity Data Privacy & Compliance

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive cybersecurity program
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA COPPA CIPA and state regulations
  • Oversee data governance and promote ethical technology use
  • Lead incident response and disaster recovery planning

Data Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Oversee systems for data collection analysis and reporting
  • Ensure data is accurate accessible and actionable
  • Support data-informed decision-making and improve data literacy

Budgeting & Resource Management

  • Develop and manage the technology budget
  • Align resources with strategic priorities
  • Maximize funding opportunities (E-Rate grants)
  • Ensure cost-effective purchasing

Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise and evaluate technology staff
  • Build a high-performing service-oriented team
  • Provide coaching and professional development
  • Align organizational structure with district needs

Community & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communicate technology initiatives clearly to all stakeholders
  • Build partnerships with vendors and external agencies
  • Promote digital safety and responsible technology use

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Information Technology Educational Technology Computer Science or related field (required)
  • Masters degree (preferred)
  • 57 years of progressive technology leadership experience
  • K12 experience strongly preferred

Preferred Certifications:

  • Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL)
  • Industry certifications (Microsoft Google AWS etc.)
  • Vermont Teaching License (Computer Science or Educational Technology Specialist)

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid drivers license
  • Criminal background clearance

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of K12 instruction and technology integration
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and data privacy regulations
  • Experience with cloud systems and network infrastructure
  • Strong leadership communication and project management skills
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into actionable strategies
  • Demonstrated success leading innovation and organizational change

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in an office environment. The role requires the ability to sit stand and use office equipment for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds. Evening or extended hours may be required.
