Position Summary

This position will report to the director of Elon Charlotte and have weekly check-ins with the faculty coordinators. Responsibilities include serving as the primary on-the-ground contact and support person for students enrolled in Elon Charlotte summer Study USA program and the new Summer Business Institute program. This position will support and attend all enrichment programming.

The position will run from mid-May to Sunday August 2 with the assistant living full-time in Charlotte for the entirety of the program. Evening and weekend work required. This position is required to attend the Elon Charlotte Study USA and SBI orientations in April 2026 on the central campus to meet the summer students and the faculty.

The assistant will live at Foster Flats. The assistant will coordinate with the director of Elon Charlotte on the move-in date. A monthly light rail pass will be provided for the duration of the program. Mandatory training in Elons Student Life Student Care and Outreach Title IX the Cleary Act Living and Learning Communities and Inclusive Excellence policies and protocols will also be provided prior to the program start date (most likely throughout April and early May).

From mid-May to August 2 2026 this position is 25 hours/week for a total of $7000 for the entire summer.

This position also includes free housing and a monthly light rail pass. Benefits are not included.

Job Duties

  • SUPPORT FOR ELON IN CHARLOTTE STUDENT PROGRAM
    • Serve as primary contact for student concerns and well-being for a total of 13-15 students enrolled in the summer Study USA program and SBI program.
    • Coordinate with the Office of Student Care and Outreach to address student care and conduct issues. Refer students to appropriate resources to manage health and wellbeing.
    • Work with Residence Life to prevent and ameliorate roommate issues. Handle student housing issues ensure students understand the policies and procedures for the property and act as a liaison with property management.
    • Provide crisis management and 24-hour on-call support in the case of emergencies assisting director and faculty member on the ground and escalating concerns to proper resources.
    • Communicate with providers and manage all logistical aspects of student programming and course-related excursions (ex: buy tickets confirm reservations and coordinate student travel).
    • Attend and actively engage with students at all planned enrichment activities including community service events wellness events professional development events events with alumni sporting events (Charlotte FC games) cultural events (festivals museums) and social events (block parties movies in the park trivia nights).
    • Communicate with students weekly through emails and Flare messages about the schedule of events including any changes and things they need to know beforehand i.e. clear bag policies.
    • Assist with move in and move out including greeting parents and helping students get acclimated to the apartment complex and surrounding area (grocery store light rail)
    • Contribute to on-the-ground orientation by supporting and leading engaging informational sessions
    • Help Study USA Coordinator conduct mid-summer check-ins with all students
    • Occasionally attend weekly Study USA classes Friday mornings and engage with the academic course material at the faculty directors discretion
    • Support Study USA students who arrive in Charlotte without an internship; partner with the Elon Student Professional and Development Center on a plan to best support these students in obtaining an internship
    • Visit Study USA students internship sites with visiting SPDC staff members or director of Elon Charlotte to meet interns supervisors and help strengthen the Elon brand
    • Other duties as assigned
  • ACTIVELY ENGAGE WITH ALUMNI
    • In partnership with the Office of Alumni Engagement help coordinate events for students and alumni to meet each other.
    • Support student professional development by co-facilitating two Study USA Food for Thought lunches with alumni
    • Facilitate the Take an Alum to Coffee gift card program.
    • Keep track of all events with alumni and record the number and names of alumni that attended each event. Share with at the end of the summer.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • COMMUNICATIONS MARKETING & PUBLIC RELATIONS
    • Submit two articles on Today at Elon that highlight the Study USA program activities volunteer opportunities student internships alumni events class projects and other interesting aspects of the programs.
    • Share videos and photos every two weeks with the Isabella Cannon Global Education Center (GEC) to post on the Elon global Instagram account to promote Study USA. Share pictures with LSB faculty members to post on their Instagram account. Posting on your personal LinkedIn account to promote the program is also encouraged.
    • Add all videos photos and quotes to Elon Charlotte Teams folder.
