CNM 3 IV Team/ ADON Infection Prevention & Control
Salary:
Appointment will be made on Staff Nurse Grade (37788- 56032) at a point in line with Government pay policy.

37.5 hours per week

Responsibilities
The post-holder will work as a member of the Intravenous (IV) Team within the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Team providing specialist IV service to patients and an education and support service to staff.
You are expected to practice within the Code of Practice guidelines from NMBI and within the Nursing and other Hospital Policies and Procedures. You will be held accountable to the Clinical Nurse Manager. Discretion initiative and an interest in teaching student nurses and preliminary training students to function independently is also a prerequisite. At all times you will practice within the limits of your experience and will have available to you more senior expert nurses. Overall your responsibilities may be divided into clinical professional managerial and educational categories.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
To maintain a high standard of nursing care
To develop clinical expertise leadership and teaching skills through nursing practice.
To share responsibility with the team for the management of care and the patient environment under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager
To maintain a high standard of professional and ethical responsibility
CLINICAL ROLE:
Act as a clinical resource person to patients staff and multidisciplinary teams with regards to the insertion and management of Intravenous Cannulae
Provide specialist knowledge education audit and support on the management of Intravenous Cannulae
Be involved in quality improvement initiatives and service plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams for the reduction if Healthcare-associated Infections with the Infection Prevention and Control Team
Incident review and management
Be responsive to actions identified on audit or evaluation
Review support and ensure hospital policies procedures and national guidance pertaining to IPC and IV care are adhered to and implementation of local policy and guidance. Support the implementation and national policy and guidance
To provide and maintain effective individualised nursing care
Support the use of digital technology and innovation
CLINICAL:
a) Assessment
Utilises assessment skills and techniques for patients
Completes and documents the nursing admission assessment in a thorough and accurate manner
Assesses patient condition on an ongoing basis
Assesses the need for patient/family instruction
b) Planning
Develops and documents a plan of care based on patient needs.
c) Implementation
Provides safe comprehensive and quality nursing care to a caseload of patients and within the guidelines laid out by NMBI.
Knows and practices according to established legal requirements policy and procedures.
Establishes care priorities based on nursing/medical patient problems.
Performs procedures accurately completely and safely
Provides care with minimal supervision in a timely manner
Maintains a safe environment for patients
Respects the dignity and confidentiality of patients serving as an advocate as necessary
Functions quickly and effectively in an emergency situation
Adapts to changing workload
Deals with incidents and accidents in accordance with hospital policy. Accurately record and report detail
d) Evaluation
Contributes to nursing quality assurance by assisting in the identification of recurrent problems and co-operating in data collection.
Participate in working groups/ committee as assigned
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Possess excellent communication skills
Documents according to policy and procedure
Build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and team members
Reports verbally and in writing pertinent patient care information to appropriate nursing/medical personnel
Approaches interpersonal relationships in a manner that avoids antagonism reduces conflict and prevents undue anxiety
Recognises self-limitations and requests assistance
PROFESSIONAL:
a) Professional Expectations
Supports the philosophy objectives and goals of the IPC Team the nursing department and the hospital
Follows appropriate lines of authority by discussing issues firstly with Clinical Nurse Manager then with Assistant Director of Nursing and then with the Director of Nursing
Demonstrates flexibility by assisting in other areas of the Hospital as needed
Develop polices and SOPs in relation the service with the CNM/ADON
MANAGEMENT:
Demonstrates ability to organise care for all patients within the service
Uses time effectively
Shows ability to delegate work to Staff Nurses Student Nurses or other
Uses discretion for decision making regarding patient care
Displays initiative
Reports on-going problems to CNM
EDUCATION:
Demonstrates ability to teach and guide staff in relation to IV care and audit
Shows interest in Post Graduate Education/Self Development
3. Attends required standard number of Study Days in the year
Qualifications
Selection criteria outline the qualifications skills knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post.
Applications will be assessed on the basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria.
Mandatory:
Be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses kept by An Bord Altranais (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) or be entitled to be so registered
Successful completion of Venepuncture and IV cannulation education
Desireable:
High level of organisational skills
Interest in progressing in Infection Prevention & Control
Experience in IV cannulation
