Position Purpose:

York Region is committed to building strong caring and safe communities. As we continue to strengthen the Social Assistance Division and expand the Ontario Works program we are seeking an ambitious inclusive leader to serve as the Director Social Assistance Division .
Reporting to the General Manager Social Services within our Community and Health Services Department and working with the Senior Leadership Team within the Social Services Division you will lead the strategic evolution of our social safety net. Your mandate is to bridge the gap between provincial policy transformation and local community impact overseeing a diverse portfolio. You will lead the design and implementation of a modern seamless service delivery model that ensures our programs dont just provide support but actively drive long-term stability and customer success.

Using a collaborative approach to build and lead a high-performing management team you will ensure our community supports are anchored by evidence-based decision-making to meet the changing demands of residents and partners

Qualifications:
Successful completion of a University Degree in Social Science Public/Business Administration or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of seven (7) years demonstrated experience in the Social Services field including 3 years managerial experience that includes program financial budget administration and human resource management.
Demonstrated knowledge of applicable legislation (e.g. Ontario Works Act) industry standards issues and communities served.
Experience in community and political engagement and working with all levels of government staff.
Demonstrated knowledge of applicable legislation municipal and Regional government organization and structure industry standards issues and communities served.
Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in strategic planning change management design process and implementation strategies to optimize both quality and cost-effectiveness of services.
Leadership competencies including operating strategically leveraging diversity and differences customer focused ensuring accountability managing complex problems financial management employing interactive and effective communication fostering collaborative relationships cultivating engagement to drive vision and purpose managing and developing talent establishing and maintaining trust displaying self-awareness and demonstrating resiliency.
Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications information management systems virtual platforms and digital communication tools.
Demonstrated political acumen discernment and ability to negotiate mediate facilitate and present information to a varied audience.
Ability to interpret analyze and communicate complex issues and terminology in a constantly changing environment.
Intellectual creativity strategic forward thinker and adept listener to manage and lead a large group of professionals and build high performance teams in a multi-stakeholder environment and to look beyond traditional solutions and deliver innovative outcomes.
Ability to travel to off-site locations in a timely and efficient manner as required.
Ability to work outside regular business hours as required.
