We are looking for a dedicated and community-focused Community Prevention Home Fire Safety Technician to help deliver our prevention strategy and improve safety outcomes for our most vulnerable residents.

About the Role:
As a Prevention Home Fire Safety Technician you will play a vital role in reducing fire risk and promoting safety across Cornwall. Youll work directly with individuals families and partner agencies to deliver targeted interventions raise awareness and support those most at risk.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out Home Fire Safety Visits and deliver tailored fire safety advice.
• Identify and support vulnerable individuals through risk assessments and safeguarding referrals.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to deliver high quality Home Fire Safety Visits to reduce fire risk in individuals properties.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to service performance reporting.

Essential Criteria:

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience working in a community.
• Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.

• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across Cornwall.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of fire safety safeguarding or public health principles.

Role Purpose

Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service is seeking a dedicated and professional Prevention Home Fire Safety Technician to support the delivery of our Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP).

A Home Fire Safety Technician plays a vital role in protecting the community by delivering effective personcentred Home Fire Safety Visits (HFSV) identifying risk supporting vulnerable individuals and providing tailored safety advice detection solutions and escape planning. Working as part of Cornwall Fire & Rescue Services Prevention function the technician reduces fire incidents and improves safety outcomes across Cornwall through partnershipdriven prevention activity.

The role contributes to enhancing quality of life and saving lives by working collaboratively with internal CFRS teams wider Council departments and external partners to deliver outcomes that maximise collective capacity skills and resources. The postholder supports the achievement of service and Councilwide targets communicates fire and rescue prevention messages and helps develop CRMPaligned initiatives grounded in risk evidence and evaluation to demonstrate outcomes benefits and value for money.

The role holder is responsible for their own continuous professional development undertaking training as required and for supporting the systems and delivery of schemes that reach the most vulnerable members of the communityparticularly those at heightened riskthrough specialist Home Fire Safety Visits and Living Safe and Well Visits incorporating preventative safeguarding.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively across the Fire and Rescue Service and wider Council teams.

Essential Attributes

• Confident in all communication settings including one to one; in person on the phone and group presentation situations.

• Able to work using own initiative and multitask.

• Innovative and creative approach to set tasks

• Able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external partners and stakeholders

• Ability to respond to sensitive and difficult issues / circumstances

• Experience in an education training publicity related discipline

• 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including Maths and English or equivalent

• An ability to work with vulnerable groups and employees with appropriate regard to Safeguarding of Children Young People and Vulnerable Adults legislation and policies

• Excellent computer skills and experience of Microsoft Office

• Practical skills in using small tools step ladders e.g. for fitting smoke detectors

• Good organisational and administrative skills

• Good working knowledge of the risk assessment process and applying suitable risk reduction measures

• Ability to have a basic understanding of types of building construction to aid the selection and use of appropriate equipment fixing solutions
