The Opportunity
The Clinical Research Unit Coordinator reports directly to the Clinical Program Manager and is responsible for supporting the administrative and project-based aspects of managing the clinical functions related to the operation of the clinical trials. This includes maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) study start-up documents clinical trial execution data entry and management as well as providing daily oversight of clinical operations and project status.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Ensure Good Clinical Practices (GCP) are followed
Assists with document development and communication with the research team including but not limited to nurses research assistants charge nurses and clinical research coordinators
Maintain a documented system of clinical SOPs policies and procedures and assists with developing and making updates as required
Acts as the key point person for the clinical team for all study management reporting and documentation
Engages with the Clinical Program Manager Charge Nurse and Research Coordinator to determine mitigation plans for study delays or challenges
Supports the design and implementation of the study management templates and infrastructure
project reports
Ensures the efficiency quality and integrity of clinical data
Maintains supply and equipment inventory as needed
Orient research assistants and supports all research staff in conjunction with the Clinical Program Manager
Maintains training records and CVs for all team members
Ensure clinical equipment maintenance and calibrations are up to date
Helps coordinate study start-up with clinical staff and attend meetings as required
Acts as a main liaison with departments internal and external to the IWK to ensure effective day-to-day operations
Hours of Work
75 hours biweekly
24 hour shift schedule 7 days a week
Your Qualifications
Relevant bachelors degree (Microbiology Immunology Biology Science) required
2 years minimum related experience is required.
Relevant experience within a university hospital or comparable environment in a research setting considered an asset
Proficiency is required in the use of software: word processing database and spreadsheet presentation email and electronic calendar (i.e. MS Word Access Excel PowerPoint and MS Outlook)
Excellent time management skills and experience
Excellent knowledge of vaccine clinical trial practices principles and knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
Problem solving skills with meticulous attention to detail
Self-motivated and possess strong organizational skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to speak listen and write in a clear manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques
Demonstrate a high level of organizational time management and decision-making skills
Awareness of organizational and institutional processes contacts and SOPs is an asset
