Due to retirement two Service Complaints Decision Body posts have arisen at OF4 level. These posts are offered under Voluntary Employment ex Regular Reserves (VeRR) terms of service and are suited to someone seeking the flexibility of part-time work for up to 90 days pa potentially as part of a portfolio career. The initial contract will be for 12 months but can be extended in accordance with Reserve Land Forces Regulations up to the State Pension Age. Maximum age at time of acceptance is 60 years old or if above 60 they will have left service within the last three years.
The Service Complaints Decision Body is a critical appointment within the Service Complaints system and is a very individual responsibility. They are responsible in law for their determination including at Employment Tribunal and Judicial Review. The decision that they make will have profound consequences on the individuals involved and on the institution. These decisions and determinations are binding and irrevocable unless overturned by either a formally appointed Appeal Body or by the Armed Forces Commissioner (AFC).
The postholder will decide Service Complaints primarily at Decision Body level on behalf of the Army Board / Defence Council in accordance with JSP 831. This will involve writing clear and concise determinations of Service Complaints taking appropriate advice where necessary. Where they find that a complainant has been wronged they must identify suitable redress within delegated powers including financial redress. |
