Data Center Technician IV, Data Centre Operations

Our Data Center Engineering Operations team maintain and operate our critical infrastructure systems so that they are prepared to stand up against any situation.

The Infrastructure Operations organization is looking for Data Center Technicians to take AWS Data Centre Operations to the next level. The position will help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data center operations.

This position involves hardware and network diagnostics followed by physical repair and includes participation in an on-call rotation. All candidates should be willing to work both independently and with a team. Work prioritization organizational skills effective communication and the ability to react quickly are critical to being addition to hardware and network repair candidates will install equipment create documentation innovate solutions participate in site-level project work and fix complex problems within the Data Center Space. This team works in an environment that operates 24/7.

This process includes a variation of verifications based on the level required. These verifications are conducted through Public Service and Procurement Canada (PSPC) and
can include but are not limited to:

* Verification of identity citizenship education professional credentials personal and professional references credit check and/or criminal background check.
* Individuals may also be required to provide additional information through a security questionnaire and/or in-person/telephone security interview at the request of/conducted by PSPC.
* To obtain the requisite clearance within required timelines applicants must have five (5) years of continuous Canadian residency and must not have lived or worked outside of Canada for more than six (6) consecutive months during that time.


A day in the life
Tasked with driving innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities.
Drive projects with moderate complexity.
Assist in troubleshooting of facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
Perform rack installs rack decommissioning operational readings and facility management.
Provide key performance indicators to senior engineers.
Responsible for the on-site management of contractors sub-contractors and vendors ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices procedures & local legislation.
Performance and oversight of maintenance and operations on all electrical mechanical and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.
Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work.
Perform basic support concepts such as ticketing systems root cause analysis change management creation writing procedures and building management systems.
Work schedule changes depending on specific site needs. Shifts can be up to 12-hours and may rotate on a predefined schedule. Some locations have on-call rotations.
Maintain data center critical infrastructure equipment ensuring 99.999% up-time of the worlds largest cloud computing portfolio.
Role may support more than one location/site.
Walk job sites in uneven terrain. Maintain balance and perform construction tasks while on a ladder
Regularly lift and/or move up to 39 pounds unassisted and participate in group lifts for 40 pounds
Regularly walk use hands and fingers handle or feel reach with hands and arms stoop kneel crouch or crawl climb stairs twist bend work above shoulders grasp carry push and pull.

- 1 years of computer networking experience
- Bachelors degree in Information Technology Computer Science or a related field
- Experience in computer networking
- Experience working with Linux operating systems
- Experience with computer hardware troubleshooting and repair

- Can work in cramped spaces or in elevated locations while adhering to health & safety guidelines
- Experience dealing effectively with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure
- Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system
- Experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies
- Experience working in a data center environment (racking and stacking gear cable management hot/cold aisle containment)
- Can lift and rack equipment up to 40 pounds

The base salary range for this position is listed below. As a total compensation company Amazons package may include other elements such as sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
