Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Modeling Lead to support a consulting engagement focused on establishing a scalable business-aligned data modeling practice. This role will help drive consistency clarity and usability of data across a complex multi-site environment within a leading mining organization.
The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in data modeling business process alignment and analytics enablement along with the ability to coach teams and define sustainable practices.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development and adoption of enterprise data modeling standards
Define core business entities naming conventions and shared data definitions
Collaborate with business analytics and engineering teams to design scalable data models
Assess and improve existing data models for clarity reusability and scalability
Facilitate workshops to align stakeholders on business concepts and terminology
Support integration of data across multiple systems and sites
Provide coaching templates and best practices to internal teams
Align modeling efforts with governance standards including data quality and documentation
Contribute to a roadmap for ongoing data modeling maturity
Required Qualifications
8 12 years of experience in data modeling business analysis or related roles
Strong expertise in conceptual logical and dimensional data modeling (e.g. star schema design)
Proven ability to translate business processes into structured data models
Experience aligning business definitions and resolving data inconsistencies across teams
Strong facilitation and communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
Understanding of data governance standards and best practices
Practical experience working with SQL databases and analytics platforms
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in multi-site or domain-oriented environments
Background in mining energy manufacturing or other asset-heavy industries
Familiarity with BI/semantic layer modeling (e.g. Power BI)
Exposure to data mesh or data product concepts
Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or Databricks
Knowledge of master data management (MDM) practices
Engagement Scope
Assess current data modeling practices
Define standards principles and reference models
Align stakeholders on key business concepts and definitions
Provide reusable templates and modeling frameworks
Support development of data models aligned to a global vision
Recommend a roadmap for continuous improvement
