Job Summary:
We are seeking a litigation attorney who enjoys strategy analytics and optimizing legal spend to join our Litigation Management this role you will play a key part in managing outside counsel and controlling litigation costs across complex environmental and mass tort matters. You will combine legal expertise with data-driven insights to ensure high-quality defense work is delivered efficiently and aligned with billing standards and coverage agreements.
You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external counsel to promote accuracy fairness and best-in-class litigation management practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze investigate and evaluate new loss notices and claim tenders.
- Coordinate with policy search teams to locate relevant coverage documentation.
- Assess and position claims under primary umbrella and excess coverage.
- Coordinate the retention of defense counsel with internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and implement defense strategies in collaboration with insured parties defense counsel and other carriers.
- Proactively manage case resolution including participation in mediations within settlement authority.
- Partner with the reinsurance department to provide updates and respond to inquiries.
- Manage declaratory judgment actions including strategy development settlement valuation and approval processes.
- Collaborate on setting appropriate claim reserves.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of payments including proper allocation across policies.
- Manage ALAE through strategic oversight and billing review in coordination with the billing unit.
- Maintain accurate and compliant claim documentation in systems and records.
- Obtain and maintain required adjuster licenses.
- Travel as necessary.

Education & Experience:
- Bachelors degree (BA/BS) required
- Juris Doctor (JD) preferred (licensed in Illinois preferred)
- CPCU or other industry designation is a plus
- Independent Property & Casualty Adjusters License is a plus
- NYCAL experience preferred
- 2 3 years of experience in asbestos or similar toxic tort litigation (private practice)
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Experience in civil litigation

- Juris Doctor (JD) degree
