Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced nurse to advance practice excellence across Family Birthing Centre (FBC) the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Paediatrics and the Womens Health this role you will influence nursing practice support clinical competence lead quality and safety initiatives and collaborate with interprofessional teams. This position requires advanced expertise and a commitment to building a culture of lifelong learning and professional growth. This position will report to the Manager Professional Practice & Education.
Key Responsibilities
Orientation & Onboarding
- Coordinate and facilitate orientation programs for new hires.
- Collaborate with Managers to assign preceptors and support clinical transitions.
- Ensure education aligns with organizational policies accreditation and regulatory requirements.
Competency Management
- Assess and monitor clinical competencies.
- Develop and deliver education related to new equipment procedures and best practices.
- Evaluate and update competency programs to reflect quality safety and regulatory standards.
Education & Professional Development
- Conduct needs assessments and practice gap analyses.
- Develop implement and evaluate education programs (classroom simulation e-learning).
- Support preceptor charge nurse and leadership development.
- Promote the importance of ongoing education.
Collaboration & Partnerships
- Partner with interprofessional teams to support safe effective patient-centered care.
- Participate in committees councils and quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with academic partners to support student placements and research.
Inquiry & Quality Improvement
- Lead and/or support evidence-based practice quality improvement and evaluation projects.
- Collect and analyze outcomes data to guide education and practice change.
- Contribute to innovation in teaching and clinical practice.
Leadership & Advocacy
- Model professionalism inclusivity and respect in all interactions.
- Advocate for evidence-based equitable care and professional development.
- Support change management and organizational improvement initiatives.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Baccalaureate in Nursing (BScN/BSN) required.
- Masters degree in Nursing or a related discipline (e.g. Education Leadership Health Sciences) completed required.
- Clinical experience in Labour and Delivery NICU and Paediatrics with a minimum of 5 years of recent clinical nursing experience in Labour and Delivery NICU and/or Paediatrics.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Current Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Required experience in education/teaching including development delivery and evaluation of programs.
- Demonstrated professional communication ability through written work (e.g. teaching materials publications reports) and verbal presentations/teaching sessions.
- Demonstrated initiative accountability and project leadership (quality improvement initiatives educational innovation or practice change leadership).
- Strong knowledge of adult learning principles instructional design and evaluation methodologies.
- Criminal Record Check required.
Mandatory Competencies
- Demonstrated collaboration and interpersonal effectiveness (committee participation interprofessional initiatives or project teamwork).
- Strong organizational time management and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across all levels of the organization.
- Safety (patient worker & workplace) is a BCHS Corporate Priority. The successful applicant will demonstrate good stewardship in the identification reporting and mitigation of unsafe acts or conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Nurse Clinician/Clinical Educator is strongly preferred.
- Current Fetal Health Surveillance (FHS) certification
- Certification in Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC or equivalent).
- Experience with simulation e-learning platforms or advanced teaching modalities.
- Formal leadership education.
- Formal teaching experience with adult learners.
