Estimator

Downer is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our Transport & Infrastructure team based in either Mackay or Townsville to support the delivery of accurate competitive tenders across spray seal surfacing asphalt and civil works.

In this role you will prepare high-quality estimates and RFT/RFQ submissions working closely with operations sales and business development teams to secure work and build long-term client relationships. You will play a critical role in balancing commercial outcomes with safety compliance and delivery excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and timely RFT/RFQ submissions ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

• Develop first-principles cost estimates including take-offs scoping and pricing inputs.

• Integrate supplier and subcontractor quotes into complete tender submissions.

• Maintain estimating databases records and documentation.

• Present tenders internally for review and externally to clients where required.

• Liaise professionally with clients suppliers and subcontractors.

• Collaborate with Sales and Account Management to prioritise bids and support business growth.

• Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes templates and tools.

• Always operate in line with Zero Harm principles WHS legislation and company values.

What Youll Bring

• A Bachelors degree in Construction Management Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

• Previous experience in estimating within civil surfacing spray seal or asphalt works (preferred).

• Proven ability to interpret drawings perform accurate take-offs and scope works.

• Strong capability in first-principles estimating and cost build-ups.

• Experience reviewing contracts and identifying risk and opportunity.

• Proficiency with Benchmark Estimating (or similar software) and Microsoft Office.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• High attention to detail with strong planning and organisational skills.

• A proactive safety-focused mindset aligned to Zero Harm principles.
