Job Summary

The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (SCCJ) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for Academic Associate positions during theacademic year. Academic Associates are part-time faculty who are hired on one-semester renewable contracts to assist in one or two (3-credit) courses (not to exceed 0.40 FTE) per semester either in-person or online. For this position we seek to attract a pool of qualified people who are available to assist in online courses in our Master of Arts degree program in Criminal Justice including the capstone course in the program.

Academic Associate positions are fixed-term appointments that are not eligible for benefits sabbaticals or tenure. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned assignment load. Official transcripts are required prior to employment. Individuals employed as Academic Associates may not hold multiple non-benefits eligible appointments at Arizona State University.

The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (SCCJ) is housed in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions. Functions:

The specific responsibilities of Academic Associates are limited to assisting faculty with online courses which includes activities such as grading student work preparing course materials tutoring or running study sessions holding virtual office hours and meeting with students moderating discussion boards and responding to student questions.



Required Qualifications:

Successful applicants must demonstrate the ability to contribute to the mission of the School and College through assisting with the teaching of addition the following qualifications are required:

  • An earned masters degree in criminology criminal justice crime analysis intelligence analysis or a related field from a regionally-accredited university and at least five years of related experience (teaching and/or practitioner experience) demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility by time of appointment.
  • Consistent with ASUs Charter a demonstrated commitment to inclusion.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working in the criminal justice professions (e.g. policing courts corrections crime analysis victims services state or federal governmental agencies criminal justice policy think tanks etc.).
  • Experience teaching or training particularly in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with technology/course management systems (prior experience with the Canvas Online Instructional Platform is especially valuable).
  • Demonstrated excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
