Job Summary

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

Function as an Advanced Practice Nurse and change agent incorporating the primary role of nurse practitioner and the supporting roles of consultant educator researcher and administrator to support quality care and positive patient outcomes.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assure clinical competency and expertise in area of Otolaryngology.
  • Function independently and/or as a member of an interdisciplinary team to plan deliver and evaluate health care for a defined patient population.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff/nursing administration to monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care.
  • Determine care requirements and develop programs for a specific patient population with regard to patient condition and age and follow universal precautions.
  • Assess assist diagnose and treat medical or surgical problems and record findings.
  • Perform medical diagnostic therapeutic procedures and prescribe dispense or deliver medications when a collaborative practice agreement is in place.
  • Provide anticipatory guidance and counseling to patients/families.
  • Document patient assessment and plan of care in the medical record and generate appropriate health reports for outgoing correspondence.
  • Initiate and coordinate referrals to other health care team members or agencies.
  • Serve in a consultative resource capacity by providing expert knowledge and behavioral skills that impact clinical practice and patient outcomes.
  • Participate in the development utilization and evaluation of resources to meet patient/family educational needs.
  • Perform or assist in and interpret the performance of laboratory and related studies.
  • Provide education to external agencies community and other health professionals.
  • Generate research questions regarding health care for particular patient populations.
  • Participate in development and implementation of divisional and departmental quality assessment/improvement/research programs and processes.
  • Responsible for administrative activities and special projects as assigned.
  • Contribute toward the achievement of divisional and departmental goals.
  • Participate and contribute to activities that enhance clinical expertise and nursing knowledge.
  • Participate in professional nursing activities in the department hospital community and professional organizations.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty staff students and the public.

  • Establish and maintain standards of collaborative interaction among peers and employees that is characterized by respect honesty and service; assure that all unit members are held to similar standards and ethics; constructively manages conflict.

  • Inspire and motivate others to high performance by exercising strong stewardship of University resources setting expectations measuring success through individual performance evaluations and driving organizational results.

  • Identify opportunities for and creates development plans that encourage employees to attend to the growth of their personal and professional capacity; engage self and staff in collective reflection of the Universitys greater role in society.

The department intends to hire for one position as either an ARNP requisition or PA requisition based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Please apply to the specific position for which you which to be considered or both.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Masters degree is required. A Masters degree in Nursing is preferred. If Masters degree is in a related field a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required.
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required.
  • Current certification in specialty area and licensure as ARNP in state of Iowa is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in area of clinical practice is required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in an otolaryngology ambulatory clinic practice.

  • Experience with a cancer survivorship clinic.

  • Participation in professional ARNP organization(s).
