Job Summary

Job Summary:

Manages schedules and coordinates the facility schedule of the Student Recreation & Wellness Center and Buchtel Field. Responsible for hiring training evaluating and supervising facility student employees while developing and applying employee trainings in safety customer service and event management.

Essential Functions:

  • Recruit hire train supervise and evaluate approximately 65 students staff for the following positions: facility supervisor front desk attendant equipment check-out court monitor and custodial. Design and deliver student training and development opportunities that align with industry best practices and increase student buy-in.

  • Organize implement and provide on-site supervision of special event programming within recreation facilities and campus wide to include SRWC Ocasek Natatorium and Buchtel Field. Work with department programs university departments and community patrons for scheduling billing and contracts personnel supervision and other duties related to facility reservations. Assist in operation of SRWS aquatic program to include facility operations policy and procedure management and special event programming.

  • Coordinate informal recreation schedule for court space and open recreation time ensuring a diverse offering of drop-in sports to meet the needs of the campus community.

  • Operate facility management system (DSE) and support facility operations for functions including but not limited to: facility reservations equipment check-out point of sale membership sales program registration and reporting. Assist in the creation of policies and procedures related to fiscal responsibility and sourcing.

  • Maintain inventory and recommend purchases of equipment for check-out and other facility operation supplies. Develop program yearly budget tracking and reporting compiling revenue information on a per-session semester and fiscal year basis. Monitor expenditures and payroll to meet budget goals.

  • Assist in maintenance and upkeep of facilities to include SRWC & ONAT facilities. Coordinate with appropriate personnel both internal and external to the SRWS Department to maintain cleanliness & safety standards of equipment.

License/Certification Requirements:

  • American Red Cross CPR (or equivalent) Instructor (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)

Education:

Requires a relevant bachelors degree

Experience:

Requires a minimum of 1 year of experience in collegiate recreation or equivalent field.. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously manage time efficiently and prioritize tasks. Supervisory experience of staff and/or students strong oral and written communication skills ability to work non-traditional work week and ability to work in a high-tempo work environment. Computer skills to include Microsoft Office suite of programs and membership/facility management software.

Compensation: Starting salary for this position is $47950 annually. The University of Akron offers a competitive total compensation package comprised of a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits for eligible employees including medical dental vision short and long-term disability life insurance and paid leave of absences including time off for illness vacation and maternity or paternity addition eligible employees and their dependents are provided tuition remission.
