The Role

As a Senior Buyer at Poundstretcher you will be a critical driver of category performance and growth. You will take full ownership of your FMCG category developing and executing strategy unlocking commercial opportunities and ensuring we deliver compelling value-led ranges for our customers.

This role goes beyond day-to-day buying. You will play a key role in leading the business through a period of growth and transformation helping to scale categories evolve ranges and support new store openings.

Key Responsibilities

• Category Ownership:Lead the end to end management of FMCG categories driving sales margin.
• Strategic Leadership:Develop and deliver clear category strategies aligned to business objectives and expansion plans
• Growth Delivery:Identify and unlock opportunities to accelerate sales growth within a value focused high volume model
• Supplier Management:Build and manage strong supplier partnerships negotiating effectively to deliver best in class value
• Range Development:Create compelling customer focused ranges that reflect trends while maintaining a strong price position
• Change & Transformation:Play a key role in evolving the category during a period of business change bringing structure pace and innovation
• Cross-Functional Collaboration:Work closely with merchandising supply chain and operations to deliver seamless execution
• Store Expansion Support:Ensure categories are scalable and optimised to support an ambitious new store opening programme
• Leadership:Coach and develop junior team members contributing to a high-performing buying function

Skills & Experience

We are looking for a proven Senior Buyer or an experienced Buyer ready to step up with a strong track record in FMCG within a discounter or value retail environment.

You will also bring:

• Demonstrable success in driving sales growth and improving category performance
• A hands on approach to work with the ability to create plans and personally deliver them
• Strong experience operating within a high volume value driven retail model at a very fast pace
• A track record of navigating and leading through change transformation or rapid growth
• Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance short term trading with long term strategy
• Advanced analytical capability with confidence using data to inform decisions
• A proactive resilient mindset and the ability to thrive in a fast paced environment
• Natural leadership skills with the ability to influence and bring others on the journey
