SUMMARY: The College and Career Counselor provides post-graduate planning support to students in grades 9-12. The most intense work is with juniors and seniors. The College and Career Counselor utilizes SCOIR for the College and Career readiness platform. There is a heavy emphasis on college counseling expertise. The position requires collaboration with school counselors faculty school administration and the Newton community. The Counselor attends college tours workshops and other post-graduation relevant programs. College and Career Counselor organizes and participates in a number of student/parent/caregiver evening events throughout the school year.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Counseling or Education;
- MA School Counseling license and certification;
Desired Attributes:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience;
- Background working with diverse populations of students including first generation college-bound students
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To):
- Strong counseling skills;
- Conduct planning meetings with students and parents/caregivers representing diverse identities priorities and goals;
- Collaborate with other members of the department and school community;
- Use SCOIR on a regular basis and provide SCOIR support to students and classroom educators;
- Network with College Admission Representatives;
- Organize events such as annual Financial Aid Night College Admission Rep Visits Junior Night College Admission Panel College Fairs/Nights;
- Attend numerous college tours conferences and workshops throughout the year;
- Manage large amounts of college and career information for dissemination to students/parents/caregivers educators etc
- Support students to navigate their interests and passions through the pursuit of summer programs internships and extra-curricular
- Manage the distribution of scholarship information
- Expertise with college admissions trends and career pathway opportunities
