Job Summary

JOB DESCRIPTION

POST TITLE: Laundry Assistant

RESPONSIBLE TO: Cleaning Service Laundry Supervisor

Job Purpose

To undertake as part of a team the laundering drying sorting and preparation of all microfibre mops and cloths used across schools ensuring hygienic and efficient turnaround in line with Education Authority standards. The postholder must be able to drive as they may be required to undertake delivery and collection duties in the absence of the Laundry Supervisor.

1.0 Duties and Responsibilities

1.1 Receive sort and prepare soiled microfibre mops and cloths for laundering following agreed hygiene and handling procedures.

1.2 Load and operate commercial washing machines and dryers using the correct settings chemicals and dosages as instructed.

1.3 Inspect microfibre items after washing to ensure they meet required cleanliness standards; rewash items as necessary.

1.4 Fold sort and pack clean microfibre mops and cloths for return to schools ensuring correct quantities and labelling.

1.5 Maintain cleanliness of laundry work areas equipment sinks and surfaces as required.

1.6 Check clean and store laundry machinery filters dispensers and surrounding areas in line with manufacturer and EA guidelines.

1.7 Report equipment faults shortages or issues immediately to the Laundry Supervisor.

1.8 Assist with the movement or weighing of laundry bags or containers observing correct manualhandling procedures at all times.

1.9 Provide delivery and collection cover when required ensuring safe driving correct handling of clean/soiled materials and completion of any associated logs or delivery records.

2.0 General Conditions

2.1 All duties must be carried out in compliance with: (a) The Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978; (b) Relevant legislation statutory instruments and regulations; (c) COSHH Regulations; (d) Approved Codes of Practice.

2.2 All duties will be carried out in conditions normally inherent to commercial laundry and delivery work.

2.3 Provide cover for colleagues on sick leave in line with Education Authority procedures.

2.4 Absence must be reported in accordance with Education Authority procedures with the relevant documentation completed and signed by the Laundry Supervisor.

2.5 Protective clothing and workwear issued must be worn while carrying out duties.

2.6 Flatsoled enclosedtoe footwear must be worn at all times.

2.7 All equipment must be used and maintained safely; defects must be reported immediately.

2.8 All required paperwork must be completed accurately and promptly.

2.9 Duties may include tasks up to and including those at the same grade provided they are within the competence of the employee.

2.10 The postholder must hold a valid driving licence to provide delivery cover when required.

3.0 Training

3.1 Employees will undertake any training required for duties graded above their own. Payment will only be made where the Authority requires higherlevel duties to be performed.

3.2 Employees must undertake training to facilitate all duties up to and including their own grade. This includes: Induction Training and Refresher Training.
