Job Summary

The Program Manager Biological Safety Officer (PMBSO) reports to the Director of Research Safety to ensure activities related to the use of biological materials including recombinant and synthetic DNA in laboratories are performed safely and in compliance with applicable regulations standards policies and procedures and best practices. The BSO develops and implements policies and procedures tools and guidance to help ensure the safety stewardship and compliance in the use of biological materials. The PMBSO serves as the technical expert and provides Biosafety expertise to the BU Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). The PMBSO submits and renews the rDNA permits on behalf of BU BMC and tenant laboratories at BU to the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC).

Required Skills

B.A./B.S. in a related field and five years of relevant experience the ability to respond to emergencies on campus during off hours including weekends and holidays as part of the on-call emergency response team. Should have or be able to obtain the 40-hour OSHA hazardous waste operations and emergency response training.
