What does the role involve

The Program Coordinator supports the implementation of Caritas Australias Program Strategies including overseeing a portfolio of development and humanitarian partnerships and projects that empower Caritas Australia partners and communities to build resilience and prepare for and respond to disasters.

Key responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Coordinating partnership and project portfolio with particular focus on coordination and oversight of Pacific Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) projects.
  • Overseeing project lifecycle and management deliverables including quality project design adaptive implementation reporting and grant compliance.
  • Coordinating partnership and accompaniment deliverables including partnership compliance and accountability and support for organisational development.
  • Oversee project and partnership documentation deliverables and data entry across relevant systems while managing project and partnership risks particularly related to safeguarding and financial management.
  • Contribute to business development by supporting grant identification and applications and participate in initiatives that strengthen organisational and sectoral impact and accountability.

This role is based in our Sydney (Mascot) office and offers a hybrid working model with two days per week in the office. This role requires regular international travel across the Pacific including trips of up to 23 weeks in duration.


Who are we looking for

The successful candidate will have a deep commitment to Caritas Australias mission to end poverty and injustice by promoting human dignity for all as well as a dedication to the principles of Catholic Social Teaching that guide our global efforts. They will have a mix of the following qualifications skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in international development humanitarian studies disaster risk reduction climate change adaptation or a related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) climate change adaptation resilience building or humanitarian preparedness preferably in Pacific Island contexts.
  • Demonstrated experience brokering and coordinating complex partnerships and multistakeholder arrangements across diverse geographic and socioeconomic settings.
  • Strong experience in project and program management including design budgeting monitoring and evaluation and reporting for large or multiyear programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in partnership coordination and accompaniment including organisational development support facilitation and capacitybuilding.
  • Technical proficiency in DRR humanitarian standards (e.g. Sphere CHS) project cycle management and adaptive management approaches.
  • Competence in using program management systems data management tools and digital collaboration platforms.
