Job Summary

Overview

The Garfield County Office of Utah State University Extension seeks a qualified individual to work with children and families as a Family Services Program Assistant at local schools. Under the direction of the Home and Community Faculty this individual is primarily responsible for planning organizing and implementing the Family and Community Partnership service area. Works individually with family members to determine educational and social service needs. Acts as liaison between families and community organizations. Helps plan and implement quarterly Family Night Out events each school year. Arranges for other community classes and organizations to be held on site.

Responsibilities

  • Helps plan and implement quarterly Family Night Out Activities each school year.
  • Assists parents in developing individualized short-and long-term goals and in accomplishing them.
  • Coordinates family learning center and on-site community classes.
  • Participates in community boards councils advisory groups etc. coordinating resources that meet the needs of intergenerational poverty families establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships with them.
  • Maintain organized records of activities and submit accurate prompt reports as requested by Home and Community Faculty
  • Coordinates efforts to encourage community members and parents as volunteers.
  • Communicate regularly with the Afterschool Program Assistant and County Field Staff as to the progress and needs of the program.
  • Provide support to afterschool educators and assist them with working with the youth and their families.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Education Public Health or a similar field or 3 Years of experience in ducation Public Health or a similar field.
  • High degree of self-motivation
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Strong interpersonal oral and written skills
  • Experience in recruiting supervising and working with other adults
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Basic computer skills- Word Excel and Internet
  • Experience working and/or desire to work with youth and their families
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Must be available for all hours of program operation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with after-school programs
  • Management and leadership experience
  • Evidence of teamwork capabilities
  • Experience navigating grant finances and expectations
  • Skills in social media and other forms of marketing
  • 4-H experience

The environment and physical requirements may change depending on the specific function of the work each department performs. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors in an office space event space or public space are protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents may nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing).

Outdoors incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. Bending crawling and crouching may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift push and/or pull objects up to 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.

This position requires moderate physical effort. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including lifting up to 25 pounds walking and standing. Employees must adhere to safety precautions and may be required to use protective equipment.
