Job Summary

Job Summary

Promotes adoption and foster programs to increase pet placements while working directly with the public to assist and educate citizens on pet selection care and responsible ownership. Manages adoption and foster operations ensuring compliance with applicable animal-related laws and regulations. This role requires flexibility including shift rotations weekends holidays and occasional evenings.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of policies and procedures to enhance adoption and foster programs.
  • Recruit onboard train and support foster volunteers and families.
  • Prepare and distribute starter kits supplies and equipment for foster care needs.
  • Educate the public on adoption procedures animal welfare and applicable laws through verbal and written communication.
  • Assist in creating educational materials related to animal care and treatment.
  • Coordinate and support events and initiatives that promote adoptions and foster participation.
  • Evaluate and approve animals for adoption eligibility.
  • Monitor animal health recognizing signs of illness or stress and report concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Assist with handling grooming feeding and general care of sheltered animals.
  • Administer vaccinations and provide minor first aid when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of adoptions fostering redemptions and donations.
  • Manage inventory of supplies equipment and donations for program operations.
  • Ensure proper handling and documentation of adoption fees and donations in compliance with financial procedures.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians animal welfare organizations and other agencies.
  • Respond to emergencies and disaster situations as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of adoption areas and facilities.
  • Handle inquiries via phone email and radio communication.
  • Oversee community programs such as Doggy Day Out including marketing and participant engagement.
  • Serve as Shelter Supervisor on assigned weekends as needed.
  • Prepare supply lists and coordinate procurement for program needs.
  • Operate standard office and facility equipment including vehicles when required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience in animal care (adoptions volunteer supervision or related activities).
  • At least two (2) years of direct customer service experience.
  • Valid drivers license required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of animal care health and disease management practices.
  • Understanding of applicable laws ordinances and regulations related to animal services.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with the public and stakeholders.
  • Ability to organize prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and record-keeping systems.
  • Ability to prepare reports and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing walking bending kneeling and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 45 lbs.
  • Ability to handle animals safely and effectively.
  • Occasional climbing pushing and pulling activities required.
