The Director of Logistics will lead the strategic operational initiatives for logistics performance while collaborating across the organization with Quality Manufacturing Supply Chain and Engineering organizations to deliver tangible results as well as to instill a mindset and culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement. They will also spearhead the strategic management of logistics and warehousing operations ensuring the safe and efficient movement storage and distribution of chemical products. This role is pivotal in developing and executing logistics strategies that adhere to regulatory requirements enhance operational efficiency and support the companys growth objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Formulate and implement comprehensive logistics and warehousing strategies tailored to the unique needs of the chemical industry. Align logistics operations with the companys overall strategic goals and regulatory compliance requirements.
Oversee all aspects of logistics and warehousing including the handling and storage of hazardous materials. Ensure adherence to safety regulations industry standards and environmental policies.
Lead mentor and develop the logistics and warehousing team. Promote a culture of safety efficiency and continuous improvement. Manage staffing training and performance evaluations to build a high-performing team.
Develop and manage the logistics and warehousing budget ensuring cost-effective operations. Analyze financial performance identify cost-saving opportunities and implement budgetary controls.
Establish and maintain relationships with logistics service providers suppliers and other key partners. Negotiate contracts and service agreements to ensure optimal service levels and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Implement advanced technologies in automation for logistics and warehousing systems tailored to the companys requirements. Stay informed about technological advancements and industry trends to enhance operational capabilities.
Ensure compliance with all applicable local national and international regulations related to the handling storage and transportation of chemical products. Develop and enforce protocols to manage risks and ensure safe operations.
Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of logistics and warehousing operations. Use data-driven insights to drive continuous improvement and address operational challenges.
Collaborate with other departments including manufacturing quality control and customer service to ensure seamless integration and communication across the organization. Facilitate coordination to meet customer requirements and enhance service delivery.
Work across the organization to develop and drive to completion strategic initiatives around Productivity and On-time Delivery
Work with support functions to collaborate and maximize impact of support function processes including supply chain quality and engineering.
Apply Continuous Improvement and Lean tools to improve/redesign business processes in order to drive productivity efficiency simplification and waste elimination
Work with internal teams to yield maximum improvement in Safety Quality Delivery throughput and Cost efficiency through:
Business Process Improvement - Define optimize and maintain end to end business processes (e.g. map/analyze using standard problem-solving tools and techniques)
Root cause problem solving and training teams on standardized approach
Identify and quantify continuous improvement opportunities across functions and build business case and necessary investment case
Deployment of Visual Management Systems
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 10 years of experience in logistics and warehousing with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within the chemical industry or a similar field. Demonstrated experience in managing hazardous materials and compliance with industry regulations.
Strong leadership and team management -depth knowledge of logistics and warehousing best practices in the chemical sector. Excellent problem-solving analytical and communication skills. Proficiency in logistics and warehouse management systems.
Relevant certifications (e.g. APICS CSCMP or certifications related to hazardous materials handling) are preferred.
Knowledge of transportation regulations (ex. USDOT ODOT) HAZMAT and IATA requirements strongly preferred.
Experience with Microsoft D365 preferred.
Ability to manage complex logistics operations in a regulated environment. Flexibility to adapt to evolving industry standards and business needs.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in Logistics Supply Chain Management Chemistry Chemical Engineering or a related field. Advanced degree or MBA is preferred.
