Context and Role

AROMA STUDY

The AROMA Study led by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and The George Institute for Global Health aims to combat the high risk of premature Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) in India by adapting regional cuisines to follow anti-inflammatory Mediterranean principles. Recognizing that traditional Indian dietsoften high in carbohydrates and low in proteins and vegetablescontribute to risk factors like hypertension and diabetes the study seeks to develop five culturally acceptable region-specific dietary plans with a low Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII). The project is structured into two phases: an initial 18-month phase focused on literature reviews market surveys and the development of 7-day menus and validated Food Frequency Questionnaires (FFQs); and a subsequent 24-month feasibility phase. During this second phase researchers will recruit participants to test these diets assessing outcomes through anthropometry behavioral readiness questionnaires and a variety of biomarkers including inflammatory markers like hsCRP and specific biomarkers of food intake (BFI) such as flavonoids and creatine. Ultimately the study utilizes a transtheoretical model for counseling to optimize dietary adherence and improve overall cardiovascular health.

A Research Fellow (equivalent to Project Research Scientist III under ICMR) will be engaged for the above-mentioned project to provide technical and administrative support to the PI at TGI for the smooth implementation of the project.
