Job Summary
The Nurse Manager is responsible for the overall operations and leadership of the psychiatric unit working collaboratively with the Director. This role ensures high-quality patient care regulatory compliance and effective interdisciplinary coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Build and maintain professional relationships with patients visitors and staff
Ensure compliance with hospital policies procedures and regulatory requirements
Oversee daily operations of the psychiatric unit (24/7 accountability)
Collaborate with the Director on unit management and strategic initiatives
Lead performance improvement and quality assurance activities
Prepare and analyze clinical and statistical reports for regulatory agencies
Monitor admissions discharges and care planning processes
Ensure readiness for surveys (DOH JCAHO etc.)
Manage budgeting supplies and inventory
Ensure adherence to nursing standards ethics and patient care quality
Provide administrative support for the Nursing Department as needed
Promote continuing education and professional development
Implement best practices and innovative care solutions
Support HCAHPS improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
Registered Nurse (RN) license
Minimum 5 years of RN experience
Minimum 5 years of psychiatric clinical experience
Minimum 2 years in a leadership/management role
Mandatory: Experience managing a psychiatric unit in a hospital setting
Required Skills
Strong leadership and team management abilities
Knowledge of regulatory standards (NYSDOH JCAHO etc.)
Experience with quality improvement methodologies (CQI Root Cause Analysis)
Excellent critical thinking analytical and problem-solving skills
Budgeting and administrative competency
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in computer and basic math skills
