Job Summary The Nurse Manager is responsible for the overall operations and leadership of the psychiatric unit working collaboratively with the Director. This role ensures high-quality patient care regulatory compliance and effective interdisciplinary coordination.
Key Responsibilities - Build and maintain professional relationships with patients visitors and staff
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies procedures and regulatory requirements
- Oversee daily operations of the psychiatric unit (24/7 accountability)
- Collaborate with the Director on unit management and strategic initiatives
- Lead performance improvement and quality assurance activities
- Prepare and analyze clinical and statistical reports for regulatory agencies
- Monitor admissions discharges and care planning processes
- Ensure readiness for surveys (DOH JCAHO etc.)
- Manage budgeting supplies and inventory
- Ensure adherence to nursing standards ethics and patient care quality
- Provide administrative support for the Nursing Department as needed
- Promote continuing education and professional development
- Implement best practices and innovative care solutions
- Support HCAHPS improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications - Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum 5 years of RN experience
- Minimum 5 years of psychiatric clinical experience
- Minimum 2 years in a leadership/management role
- Mandatory: Experience managing a psychiatric unit in a hospital setting
Required Skills - Strong leadership and team management abilities
- Knowledge of regulatory standards (NYSDOH JCAHO etc.)
- Experience with quality improvement methodologies (CQI Root Cause Analysis)
- Excellent critical thinking analytical and problem-solving skills
- Budgeting and administrative competency
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in computer and basic math skills
- Commitment to continuous professional development
