Position Description
Job Title: Data Warehouse QA Tester
Overview
The MassHealth Systems Teams unit is seeking a highly motivated Quality Assurance Tester to join the Data Warehouse Systems Quality Assurance (SQA) team.
This role supports complex healthcare data warehouse initiatives and requires strong expertise in software testing across the full SDLC. The ideal candidate will have experience testing integrated multi-platform systems and ensuring compliance with HIPAA standards.
Key Responsibilities
Test Planning & Execution
- Develop and execute comprehensive test strategies plans data and scripts
- Define release test plans including entry/exit criteria and user acceptance criteria
- Coordinate and lead release testing activities
- Create end-to-end test scenarios and test cases
Quality Assurance & Defect Management
- Identify document and manage defects through resolution
- Analyze unclear requirements and drive resolution
- Participate in walkthroughs peer reviews and lessons learned sessions
- Ensure adherence to QA standards processes and methodologies
Automation & Tools
- Design develop and maintain scalable automation test scripts
- Contribute to and document automation frameworks
- Identify opportunities to improve testing processes and efficiency
Data & Reporting Validation
- Perform system testing of Cognos reporting and ad-hoc query packages
- Validate SQL queries involving joins filters and calculations
- Independently query transactional and data warehouse databases
Collaboration & Communication
- Work cross-functionally with business stakeholders developers and vendors
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (daily stand-ups sprint planning status reporting)
- Communicate testing progress risks and issues effectively
Required Skills & Experience
Testing & Domain Expertise
- 5 years of QA experience across:
- Functional regression smoke black-box and white-box testing
- Strong experience with:
- End-to-end integration testing
- Healthcare EDI (HIPAA PHI NCPDP)
- Claims eligibility membership and enrollment processes
- Understanding of healthcare implementation guides and EDI formats
- Experience with Medicaid/MMIS systems preferred
Technical Skills
- Strong SQL skills (DDL DML complex queries)
- Experience with test automation frameworks:
- Selenium JUnit/TestNG REST Assured
- Programming experience (preferred):
- Experience with:
- Jenkins Maven Git/SVN XL Deploy
- Oracle SQL Developer TOAD
- CI/CD and test management tools (ALM JIRA)
Tools & Technologies
- Selenium LoadRunner
- Cognos
- JIRA Visio MS Office Suite
- WinSCP PuTTY Unix/Linux environments
Additional Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment

Education & Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5 years of experience in QA and test automation for web-based applications
- 3 years of experience testing web services and APIs
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience in government and/or healthcare environments
- Familiarity with Medicaid systems and data warehouse environments
Work Environment
- Ability to deliver high-quality work on time in a semi-autonomous environment
