Job Summary
Program Summary
Under the direction of the Orientation Manager the Clinical Mentor Program Participant (RN) engages in a structured professional development experience designed to prepare registered nurses for future roles as Critical Care Transport Nurses with Boston MedFlight.
Participants function in a non-clinical observational and developmental capacity gaining exposure to both prehospital and interfacility transport medicine. The program emphasizes the development of advanced clinical knowledge critical thinking and familiarity with high-acuity time-sensitive patient care in the transport environment.
Program Responsibilities
Clinical Development and Education
- Participate in quarterly in-person education sessions focused on critical care transport topics including EKG interpretation airway management laboratory interpretation and clinical case review
- Observe and learn from Boston MedFlight clinical teams during scheduled clinical observation opportunities
- Develop an understanding of Boston MedFlight protocols procedures and operational practices
- Maintain engagement in continuing education and professional development activities aligned with program goals
Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate professionally and effectively in both written and verbal formats
- Build and maintain positive professional relationships with mentors clinical staff and program participants
- Demonstrate adaptability accountability and professionalism in a dynamic learning environment
Mentorship Engagement
- Participate in one-on-one mentorship with an experienced Boston MedFlight clinician
- Engage in regular meetings with assigned mentor to discuss clinical experiences review cases and identify areas for growth
- Seek and incorporate feedback to support ongoing clinical and professional development
- Collaborate with mentors to establish a clear pathway toward meeting employment qualifications
Additional Opportunities
- Participate in program-related activities such as case discussions skills sessions and educational events
- Engage in professional development opportunities that support readiness for critical care transport roles
Eligibility Requirements
Clinical Experience
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a minimum of three and a half (3.5) years of relevant clinical experience
(e.g. high-acuity ICU emergency department or other critical care setting) - Candidates must be within twelve (12) months of meeting Boston MedFlight clinical experience and acuity requirements
Licenses and Certifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required
- Must hold at least one of the following certifications:
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN)
- Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN)
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN)
- Actively working toward additional advanced certifications such as:
- Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN)
- Certified Transport Registered Nurse (CTRN)
- Massachusetts EMT Certification

Physical and Operational Considerations
- Ability to safely participate in clinical observation experiences in air and ground transport environments
- Capacity to function in fast-paced high-acuity clinical settings in an observational role
- Compliance with all safety and operational guidelines during program participation
Additional Requirements
- Successful completion of background screening as applicable
- Compliance with organizational health and safety requirements including required immunizations
- Adherence to all confidentiality and HIPAA regulations
