Job Summary and Purpose
- The Assistant Director of Digital Communication manages the school divisions digital ecosystem. This includes the strategy and maintenance of internet/intranet sites social media platforms and mass communication tools to effectively engage staff community members families and business partners. A primary and essential function of this role is ensuring the division remains in 100% compliance with federal ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accessibility standards across all digital fragments and platforms. This is a strictly in-person role located at Alvin York Bandy Administrative Complex (31 Stafford Avenue); telework and remote work options are not available. The Assistant Director provides high-level support for executive communications and serves as a critical link in the divisions emergency notification and community engagement efforts.
Work Objectives/Essential Functions
- Oversee and direct the workflow of the digital communication team (including Multimedia Coordinator) to ensure all projects align with division strategic plan.
- Serve as the primary strategist for the divisions digital North Star ensuring all platforms provide a unified and stable user experience.
- Maintain and optimize content on division-level and school-based web pages using FInalsite (or current CMS) managing the full lifecycle of network-based applications and site architecture.
- Administer user access and provide 1:1 technical training for school-based Content Managers to ensure division-wide consistency.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for digital accessibility ensuring 100% compliance with Office of Civil Rights (OCR) standards for all web content PDFs and multimedia fragments.
- Develop and manage mandatory ADA training via Canvas; monitor and audit all digital output to mitigate legal and accessibility risks.
- Develop and execute autonomous social media strategies across Facebook Instagram X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube to increase division visibility.
- Regularly monitor social media and web resources for division-related news or rumors; provide proactive alerts to leadership and execute emergency communications as directed.
- Administer division-wide emergency alerts school closings and delays using ParentLink (or current mass notification tool) ensuring technical accuracy and multi-channel deployment.
- Prepare and design assets for presentations and reports to execute leadership. Design and create strategic communication plans.
- Provide professional communication and technical support for School Board meetings and high-profile community engagement events.
- Utilize Canva Adobe Creative Suite and Smore to produce high-quality layouts newsletters and digital ads.
- Lead building liaisons and provide training to ensure accomplishments from every school are effectively communicated.
- Evaluation digital engagement using Google Analytics Meltwater and CMS insights to research and inform future communication investments.
Education and Experience
Education Attainment (Required): | High School Diploma or equivalent. |
Education Attainment (Preferred): | Bachelors degree in English Communications Journalism Public Relations or Business Administration is preferred. |
Relevant Experience (Required): | Minimum of two (2) years of successful experience in the private sector and/or education-oriented public relations web site management and web design is required. |

Knowledge:
- Expert knowledge of Canva Smore Meltwater Google Workspace digital signage software Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign/Acrobat Pro) and Canvas LMS.
- Deep understanding of WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards and PDF remediation techniques.
Skills:
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt tone for various digital platforms and public relations materials.
Abilities:
- Ability to interpret data from Google Analytics and social media monitoring tools to drive engagement and analyze program systems.
- Ability to maintain a high level of performance and meet deadlines during high-stress emergency notifications and multiple projects.
