Job Description:

The Digital Assessment Worker is a temporary student position that supports the evaluation and documentation of microfilm collections in relation to their digital surrogates. Working within existing systems the student will review metadata verify ownership and catalog accuracy and assess the availability and quality of digital copies. This role offers hands-on experience with collection management systems and digital preservation practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Use library management systems to identify ownership of master microfilm
  • Determine whether a digital copy exists and assess its quality (e.g. usable vs. poor quality)
  • Verify filming dates using Film Tracker to support format identification (polyester vs. acetate)
  • Review and assess the accuracy of catalog records
  • Identify whether microfilm holdings are unique or duplicated elsewhere
  • Flag discrepancies gaps or concerns for further review
  • Follow established workflows and document assessment outcomes as needed
Expected Salary:

$14.25 /hr

Required Qualifications:
  • Once trained will be able to work independently to follow structured workflows and document findings clearly and with minimal supervision.
  • Must be punctual reliable and work well with others.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with metadata and records
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel etc) is also required.
Preferred:
  • Current undergraduate or graduate student preferably with experience in digital collections archives or library systems
  • Basic research and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to learn new tools and apply assessment criteria
