The Safety Management System (SMS) Engineer is responsible for leading and managing the Safety Management System activities at the Dallas site and driving a proactive safety culture across shop and field operations. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements promotes a culture of safety and drives continuous improvement in safety performance. The SMS Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to identify hazards assess risks and implement effective mitigation strategies to ensure the highest standards of safety and quality in maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) operations.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead the On Wing Support (OWS) Dallas sites local SMS activities ensuring alignment with regulatory and company requirements.

  • Own the proactive SMS framework for the site driving continuous improvement and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Serve as the primary focal point for the Safety Action Team partnering with other departments to close risks effectively.

  • Create and sustain a culture where safety and quality are at the forefront of all operations.

  • Develop and execute SMS promotional strategies including direct and indirect messaging to engage employees at all levels.

  • Develop and conduct SMS training programs for all staff ensuring understanding of safety principles and regulatory requirements.

  • Promote safety awareness and best practices across shop and field operations.

  • Ensure continued compliance with ICAO Annex 19 FAA Part 145 EASA Part-145 and other applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Perform internal audits locally and at remote locations as required identifying gaps and driving corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with departments to execute RCCA (Root Cause and Corrective Action) and share best practices within the OWS network and GE Aerospace Quality Organization.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree (in Engineering Aviation Safety or related field preferred) from an accredited college or university and 3 years of experience in aviation safety or MRO operations (or a minimum high school diploma / GED with an additional 4 years of experience in aviation safety or MRO operations).

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with Part 145 Repair Station operations and regulatory compliance.

  • Strong knowledge of SMS principles FAA/EASA regulations and Part 145 requirements.

  • Proficiency in hazard identification risk assessment and root cause analysis.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to promote safety culture and engage stakeholders.
