Job Summary

We are seeking a RAMS / Reliability Engineer to support rolling stock projects by delivering Reliability Availability Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) activities across the full project lifecycle.

The role focuses on optimizing system performance while balancing lifecycle cost operational efficiency safety requirements and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

RAMS Engineering

  • Define and deploy RAMS activities throughout the project lifecycle
  • Develop key deliverables including:
    • RAMS Plan
    • RAMS Predictions (system & subsystem level)
    • RAMS Monitoring Plans and Reports
    • RAM Demonstration Test Plans and Reports
  • Ensure full application of RAMS processes methods and standards

Design Support & Optimisation

  • Provide Design-for-Reliability (DfR) and Design-for-Maintainability (DfM) recommendations
  • Validate system architecture against RAMS targets (MTBF MTTR availability)
  • Contribute to engineering trade-offs including:
    • Redundancy strategies
    • Maintainability concepts
    • Lifecycle cost optimisation

RAMS Analysis

  • Perform and manage key analyses:
    • FMECA (Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis)
    • Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
    • Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD)
    • Maintainability and availability modelling
  • Define and monitor RAMS KPIs

Testing & Validation

  • Specify plan and oversee reliability and maintainability testing
  • Support validation activities including:
    • Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)
    • Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
    • Reliability growth programs
  • Ensure compliance with project requirements and standards

Operational Phase & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyse field failure data from maintenance and warranty teams
  • Support:
    • Reliability growth management
    • Continuous improvement initiatives
  • Produce RAMS performance reports and KPI tracking

Safety Integration

  • Contribute to safety activities in line with:
    • EN 50126 / EN 50128 / EN 50129
  • Support hazard identification and risk mitigation
  • Contribute to safety case documentation

Qualifications :

Mandatory:

  • Engineering Degree (Mechanical Electrical Systems or equivalent)

Preferred:

  • Specialisation in RAMS / Dependability Engineering

Mandatory:

  • Proven experience in RAMS / Reliability Engineering

Preferred:

  • Experience in rolling stock or rail industry
  • Knowledge of:
    • Traction systems
    • Braking systems
    • Doors HVAC and onboard systems
  • Experience in:
    • Maintenance or Integrated Logistic Support (ILS)
    • Electronics and software systems

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong foundation in probability and statistics
  • Expertise in RAMS analysis and prediction techniques
  • Experience with reliability monitoring and field data analysis
  • Structured and rigorous approach (safety-critical environment)
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong communication and reporting skills
  • Proficiency with engineering tools and software

Additional Information :

  • Experience level: Mid to Senior (38 years recommended)
  • Experience in safety-critical systems is highly valued
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders across engineering disciplines
  • Immediate or short notice availability preferred
