Job Summary
The Assistant Director Engineering Academic Success will coordinate and supervise the College of Engineerings advising program for students on academic probation and conditionally-admitted transfer students. Directly supervises ESS advising staff and coordinates with department advising staff. Advises a caseload of students as needed. Works collaboratively across various constituencies to develop and implement practical solutions to complex problems related to advising. Facilitates the exchange of academic advising information among all concerned parties. Leads college-wide student success initiatives in collaboration with CoE senior administration. Provides significant input to the strategic direction for the Engineering Success Services unit ( ESS ) encompassing student advising co-op education and internships career services mentorship programs and other college-wide student success efforts.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Develops implements manages and assesses complex student success/retention initiatives in relation to College & Unit Goals to ensure program objectives are met. This includes but is not limited to: Planning and managing the College of Engineerings advising program for students on academic probation and conditionally-admitted transfer students. Developing and maintaining the content of a Canvas program to guide these groups of students toward return to good standing. Managing the transition of first-time-in-college ( FTIC ) students from the Division of Student Success ( DSS ) advising to the College of Engineering with those in good standing then transitioned to their departments with others retained by ESS Advising. Managing the transition of students who fail to meet department requirements to ESS Advising. Shares in advising a caseload of over 800 students with other ESS Advising advisors. While this position may not always have a primary caseload of student advisees it offers direct academic advising to a various populations of students and serves as a back-up for area advisors when necessary. When other advisors are on leave steps in to handle their caseloads. Supervises a team of advisors in ESS . Trains new advisors joining ESS Advising and participates in training new college / department academic advisors. Plans develops and implements initiatives to improve the overall student experience. For example as Early Alerts come online assists in managing the impact of this initiative on the ESS Advising advisors as well as department advisors. Develops a strategy to cope with the change in the universitys plans for academic coaching. Develops and updates yearly ESS unit strategic plan. Initiates and leads data-driven analyses and decision-making processes in relation to the student success agenda in the CoE as assigned by senior administration and developed within ESS . For example works with administration to examine advisor case loads and participates in planning changes to acceptance criteria for conditionally-admitted transfer students. Serves on College and University committees and councils including the University Academic Advising Committee. Works with the VP for Academic Advising and Engineering Associate Dean on programs that affect the college. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in related field with seven (7) of advising students & leading student success programs.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree in a related field with three (3) years of experience advising students.
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday; 8:00am to 5:00pm. Hybrid on-campus/remote work schedule possible with supervisor approval.
