About the Project

The Eyre Desalination Plant is a critical water infrastructure asset supporting SA Waters production and water quality outcomes. The Maintenance Manager is responsible and accountable for the development implementation and management of best practice maintenance policies practices and schedules to ensure plant and contract performance outcomes are met.

About the Opportunity

The Maintenance Manager is a key member of the plant leadership group and is responsible for leading a small Trades team and delivering the maintenance work allocation which will be executed primarily by subcontractors. This includes ensuring the work is delivered to time cost quality and compliance requirements.

The role is subject to conditions outlined in the relevant Workplace Agreement as well as additional contractual obligations outlined in the employment contract.

What are the key accountabilities for the position

  • Lead the maintenance function and deliver maintenance outcomes to time cost quality and compliance requirements
  • Lead your team by example while demonstrating required leadership behaviours
  • Identify and remain abreast of best practice maintenance management and asset management techniques applicable to water treatment plants and reverse osmosis systems
  • Lead the development implementation and population of Maximo (CMMS) and provide training to personnel as required
  • Prepare planned maintenance schedules and incorporate these into the CMMS ensuring alignment to best practice and lowest wholeoflife cost
  • Review the effectiveness of maintenance programs periodically to ensure an optimal level of maintenance is being undertaken
  • Provide periodic reports on maintenance performance to management
  • Undertake investigations associated with equipment performance and develop asset refurbishment/replacement proposals as required
  • Provide input into annual and 5year asset maintenance and asset renewal plans
  • Provide input into development of O&M Management Plans
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with the Operations team to minimise disruption to production
  • Lead direct and supervise the daily workforce employed at the plant for maintenance work
  • Direct and coordinate contractors engaged in site maintenance activities
  • Prepare and negotiate maintenance service contracts as required
  • Ensure Safety Quality and Environment systems are used and all activities undertaken on site comply with these plans
  • Actively participate in and drive continuous improvement of these systems
  • Remain abreast of changes to standards and legislation assess impact and develop plans to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Ensure appropriate risk assessments and JSEAs are developed prior to commencement of work activities
  • Lead and/or participate in audit processes to ensure compliance with plant management plans and systems
  • Authorised level of budgetary control
  • High level people management including Managers and Team Leaders (where applicable)
  • Other duties as required

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Trade qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering (or equivalent)
  • Tertiary qualification in mechanical engineering or a related discipline (desirable)
  • Experience maintaining assets on reverse osmosis and water treatment plants
  • Strong maintenance leadership with clear communication and reporting capability
  • CMMS-based planning and scheduling (Maximo preferred)
  • Solid understanding of compliance (Australian Standards WHS environmental obligations)
  • Risk-based decision making and structured problem solving
  • Proven trade contractor management including asset planning and contract oversight
