The Role
- The Tool and Die Coordinator is responsible for day-to-day coordination of tool and die activities in a high-volume automotive sheet metal stamping environment. This role ensures dies tooling and related resources are available safe and capable to support the production schedule. The Coordinator serves as the primary interface between Die Room Press Operations Maintenance Engineering and outside vendors to minimize downtime improve die performance and support launch and tryout events.
What Youll Do
- Coordinate daily die room priorities based on production schedule press downtime and quality concerns.
- Plan sequence and track die repair PMs engineering changes and tryout work to meet program and production timing.
- Maintain and communicate die status (in press in repair in storage at vendor in transit) to production maintenance and leadership.
- Support press set-ups and die change activities ensuring required dies tooling and components are available and verified.
- Coordinate weekend and off-shift work (e.g. repair tryout PM launch activities) including work lists coverage and handoff to oncoming shifts.
- Partner with Engineering Quality and Production to address repeat die issues dimensional concerns and scrap/downtime drivers; help prioritize corrective actions.
- Ensure adherence to WSS PS12 Die Handling and all applicable GM safety standards for die storage handling rigging and press operations.
- Help maintain accurate die storage maps identification and labeling; support improvements to die flow and storage layout.
- Work with Materials Purchasing and vendors to coordinate off-site tooling work including shipping receipts and timing follow-up.
- Use available systems (e.g. local trackers spreadsheets shop logs and GM systems) to track work orders downtime and die performance metrics.
- Support launch and tryout events (T-events blitz runs recipe development) through die readiness schedule coordination and on-floor presence as needed.
- Participate in GMS / continuous improvement activities focused on safety quality throughput and cost.
- Provide clear communication and shift handoff regarding die status open issues and next-step actions.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- 3 years experience in an automotive stamping tool & die or heavy manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of stamping dies die repair PM practices and die tryout.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize work manage multiple concurrent activities and meet aggressive timing requirements.
- Proven track record of safe work practices in a heavy industrial environment (overhead cranes rigging presses weld machining etc.).
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal) with hourly salary leadership and external partners.
- Journeyperson-level experience in Tool & Die Die Maker or closely related skilled trade; or equivalent combination of education and relevant stamping/tooling experience.
- 3 years of experience in an automotive stamping tool & die or heavy manufacturing environment.
