Position: Data Center Support Engineer
Location: Milpitas CA
Duration: 4 Weeks
Job Type: Temporary Employment

Maintain the physical integrity and availability of the data center infrastructure requiring a mix of hardware proficiency basic networking knowledge and strict adherence to safety and operational protocols (e.g. ITIL)

1. Rack & Stack: Unboxing & Inventory Receiving new hardware (servers switches storage arrays) verifying contents and updating asset management systems; Mounting Installing rails and mounting equipment into data center racks as per elevation diagrams; Decommissioning Identifying unused servers unmounting wiping data (when required) and preparing for recycling or disposal
2. Cable Management: Patching and labeling copper and fiber optic cables between devices and patch panels
3. Drive Swaps: Physically replacing failed hard drives (HDD) or solid-state drives (SSD) in hot-swappable bays
4. Troubleshooting & Testing: Performing physical checks on servers storage and network switches including visual inspection power cycling and loopback testing
5. Vendor Escort: Supervising third-party vendors (HVAC technicians electricians OEM repair technicians) to ensure adherence to security protocols
6. Logistics / Shipping & Receiving: Managing the loading dock and ensuring incoming equipment is securely staged in a designated burn-in area
7. Physical: Ability to lift 50 lbs and work on ladders or under raised floors
8. Technical: Familiarity with server vendors (HPE Dell Aruba Cisco) and cable types (LC/SC fiber RJ45)
9. Tools: Proficiency with crash carts cable testers label makers and basic hand tools
10. Soft Skills: Strong communication skills to relay real-time status updates to remote engineers
