Job Summary

Quantitative Developer / Senior Research & Data Engineer Systematic Trading

Remote in US or New York or London

A systematic investment firm is at a rare once-in-a-generation inflection point. After years of operating as the quantitative arm of a globally recognized hedge fund with over four decades of history the team is spinning out into a fully independent firm. They already manage over $6 billion in assets and are hiring aggressively. This has the potential to become one of the largest and most successful spinouts in the industry.

The engineers joining before the transition completes will play a foundational role in shaping the platform that the new firm will run on for years to come. This is not a startup the capital infrastructure leadership and proven track record already exist. However the engineering culture operates with the speed ownership and high trust of a small elite team.

The CTO personally reviews candidates and maintains exceptionally high standards for both technical quality and communication. They are looking for senior engineers who can be trusted to own major initiatives end-to-end.

The Role

As a Quantitative Developer / Senior Research & Data Engineer you will own critical infrastructure that directly powers systematic trading. Depending on your placement and focus your work will include:

  • Designing and operating high-speed reliable real-time market data systems that feed the trading infrastructure
  • Building integrated research environments where quantitative researchers develop test and deploy predictive models from feature engineering to production execution
  • Architecting scalable cloud-based simulation and backtesting platforms that support large-scale quantitative research
  • Developing toolchains and foundational systems for new asset classes and trading strategies
  • Bridging the gap between research and production ensuring models built in notebooks run reliably and efficiently at scale

The technology stack is primarily Python with C used where low-latency or high-performance demands require it. Infrastructure spans both on-premises and cloud environments. Machine learning is used as one tool among many in a systematic trading environment focused on engineering excellence and quantitative rigor.

What You Bring

  • Significant buy-side experience (or equivalent high-standard environment) ideally from a systematic hedge fund quant trading firm or a top technology company with proven success in a trading context
  • Strong Python engineering skills with the ability to build robust frameworks infrastructure and systems (not just scripts)
  • C experience is a significant plus especially for performance-critical components
  • Quantitative judgment you understand how data models and trading systems interact and can collaborate effectively with quantitative researchers
  • Senior-level ownership mindset 6-15 years of relevant experience with a track record of delivering large technical initiatives
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal the ability to clearly articulate complex ideas is non-negotiable
  • A Bachelors degree or higher in a quantitative or technical field from a strong program

Why This Is a Great Opportunity

This is about exceptional timing. The firm already possesses the capital leadership talent and performance track record. What makes this moment unique is that the spin-out is not yet complete. Engineers joining now will help build the independent platform from the inside.

If the spin-out achieves the scale currently envisioned it could become one of the largest of its kind and every early team member will carry that experience on their resume for the rest of their career.

The leadership team comes from some of the most respected systematic trading firms in the world. The CTO is known for high standards paired with high trust and minimal bureaucracy. The culture is technical fast-moving and genuinely positive many describe it as the best professional environment of their careers.

Compensation

  • New York base salary: 175000 - 225000
  • Total compensation for senior hires typically ranges from 750000 to well overin the first year (including guaranteed Year 1 bonus) depending on experience and impact. Compensation is highly flexible for exceptional candidates.

Location & Work Arrangement

  • New York (Astor Place downtown Manhattan) or London
  • New York office: Four days in-office per week (Mondays remote)
  • Additional office space recently secured to support continued growth
