Job Summary

The Procurement Engineer is responsible for managing end-to-end purchasing activities including supplier selection tender processes contract management and cost optimisation. The role ensures suppliers meet business standards while supporting operational and strategic procurement objectives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full tender process including requirement analysis tender preparation and supplier selection.
  • Evaluate supplier proposals (commercial and technical) to ensure alignment with business requirements.
  • Lead supplier nomination processes and present recommendations to decision-making forums.
  • Develop and manage supplier relationships including performance monitoring and improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee procurement processes from purchase requisition to purchase order and contract management.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies procedures and governance standards.
  • Maintain and manage supplier contracts frame agreements and purchasing documentation.
  • Conduct cost analysis and implement cost-saving initiatives.
  • Perform supplier risk assessments including financial and operational risk management.
  • Support internal stakeholders through training guidance and procurement process improvements.
  • Prepare and maintain procurement reports KPIs and documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (engineering planning finance) to ensure accurate procurement execution.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 35 years experience in a purchasing or procurement role
  • Degree in Business Administration Engineering or related field
  • CIPS certification (advantageous)
  • BSc / BEng (Mechanical Industrial or similar) or BCom Degree


Required Skills:

Qualifications: CA(SA) preferred or CIMA Experience: Minimum 3 years as a Financial Manager or similar role Experience in manufacturing or retail preferred Experience with import/export advantageous Exposure to sub-Saharan African markets advantageous Skills & Knowledge: Advanced Excel and MS Office / Google Suite proficiency IFRS for SMEs knowledge Familiarity with ERP systems Understanding of Companies Act and South African tax regulations Strong analytical problem-solving and communication skills Leadership and team management experience Core Competencies: Attention to detail and accuracy Ethical and professional conduct Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills Proactive results-driven and strategic thinker
