The Purpose of This Role

At we dont publish content for visibility. We build an intentional narrative engine one that reflects the real complexity and ambition of the hardtech and deep tech ecosystem we support.

As Strategic Communications & Brand Manager you are the architect of that story logic and the guardian of our editorial quality. You translate deep tech strategy into grounded persuasive narratives. You define what we say why we say it and ensure every word earns its place.

This is a high-impact hands-on role with genuine strategic ownership. Right now is at an inflection point. We are scaling into ringberlin set to become Europes largest makerspace. We need someone who can build the narrative infrastructure and bring it to life not manage a department.

Narrative Architecture & Brand Strategy

You own the strategic layer of all external communications.

  • Define and steward the brand voice story architecture and annual storyline
  • Define and maintain story chapters focused narrative phases that give the content roadmap direction and coherence across the year
  • Develop messaging frameworks for campaigns initiatives and key audience segments (founders investors corporate partners policy)
  • Lead end-to-end campaign management: from initial brief and narrative development through to timing priorities and execution alignment
  • Determine if and how a milestone should be communicated always prioritising credibility over visibility
  • Ensure all external communication reflects a coherent and consistent identity

Core Communications & Copywriting

You are a hands-on writer. No task is too small if it shapes how is perceived externally.

  • Website messaging and landing page copy structure clarity and positioning
  • Sales materials and stakeholder presentations: full ownership of copy argumentation and structure
  • Newsletter content planning writing and delivery
  • PR narrative positioning papers and external communications

Internal Collaboration & Story Sourcing

  • Coordinate with internal project leads across Ecosystem Community and Operations to surface stories worth telling
  • Integrate ongoing initiatives into the broader narrative roadmap
  • Brief and manage external freelancers or design resources where available

A note on resources: This role currently operates with lean support. You will work closely with our Junior Content and Social Media Manager and selected freelancers. Part of the longer-term mandate is to define what small communications functions should look like as scales.

Non-Negotiable

  • 5 years of Strategic & Creative Ownership: You have a proven track record of building communication strategies from the ground up within the startup ecosystem. You dont just follow a playbook; you write it. You can demonstrate where youve taken a complex or dry topic and turned it into a compelling non-obvious narrative.
  • Strategic Creativity (Thinking Out of the Box): You loathe stiff corporate communication. You have the ability to find unconventional angles to tell hardtech stories that cut through the noise. You possess the creative agility to adapt frameworks to real-world chaos without losing strategic coherence.
  • Fluency in Hardtech & Deep Tech: You understand the nuances of FOAK systems hardware startup journeys and deep tech funding. You can speak to an engineer and an investor in the same hour and translate between them.
  • AI-Augmented Workflow: You are savvy in utilizing AI tools (LLMs research agents automation) to augment your output. You use AI to accelerate research structure campaigns and scale your reach but you possess the editorial judgment to ensure the final output never sounds like a machine wrote it.
  • Exceptional Writing Craft: Your writing is grounded precise and structured. You avoid hype buzzwords and AI-sounding filler. You write with the confidence of someone who actually understands the technology.
  • Mastery of the Strategic Doer Balance: You define the high-level annual storyline and immediately pivot to writing the newsletter. Both are your job. Both matter equally.

Strongly Preferred

  • Background in B2B innovation research or institutional communications
  • Experience writing for both technical and non-technical audiences simultaneously
  • Familiarity with content pillar frameworks or structured editorial systems
  • Experience with PR or media relations in a startup or tech context
  • Bilingual capability in English and German is a plus
  • Own the narrative of Germanys Deep Tech Hub at a pivotal moment as we scale into ringberlin Europes largest makerspace the story we tell now will define how the ecosystem is understood for years to come
  • Build dont just run you wont inherit a finished playbook. You will write it: narrative frameworks story chapters campaign logic editorial standards
  • Work at the intersection of real technology and real storytelling surrounded by teams building sensors drones robotics climate tech mobility systems and new materials
  • Short decision paths high visibility you work closely with leadership and your output shapes how is perceived across the startup community industry and investors
  • A culture that is honest learning-oriented and community-driven we celebrate wins discuss failures openly and treat feedback as a tool

Transparency: we do not pay top corporate-level salaries. If maximum cash is your primary driver this is probably not the right move.
